Apple iPad mini 2 Review
Apple found a lot of success with the original iPad mini. It delivered an Apple tablet experience in a smaller size and at a slightly more affordable price than the full fat iPad and people went mad for it. The only real problem it had was its screen which, frankly, wasn't all that.- Stunning design
- Powerful
- Good battery life
Nov 25 2013 - The iPad Mini with Retina display is such a huge improvement over the original that it is hard to use the new one and even consider looking at the older one. In essence, Apple has taken all the things they did with the iPad Air and then offered them in the smaller tablet and with a...
Thanks to the discourse that was exposed during Samsung and Apple's legal spat in California, e-mail records revealed that Eddy Cue (senior vice president of Internet Software and Services at Apple) was pushing for a 7" iPad in 2011.
Despite the powerful internals laying inside the iPad mini’s aluminium shell, I found battery life to be impressive. In my time with the tablet, the 23.8 watt-hour (Wh) only needed charging twice with a decent amount of use each day over a week or so: a fantastic result for a mid-sized tablet with...

In our review of Apple's original iPad mini last year, we remarked that its exceptional iOS app catalogue, outstanding build quality and super light weight were only let down by a mediocre screen.
- Excellent battery life
- Retina screen a big upgrade
- Fast
- snappy performance
- More expensive than predecessor
- Screen can't match iPad Air
Apple iPad Mini 2 with Retina display review
If it wasn't for the tiny niggles of colour reproduction, performance and price, we'd give the iPad Mini with Retina display the overall tablet crown. Colours look slightly more vivid and accurate both on the iPad Air (which also performs ever-so-slightly better) and key, cheaper rivals such as the...- Gorgeous build
- stunning Retina screen
- All day battery life
- Much faster than the original Mini
- Very expensive compared to 7/8in tablets
- No expandable storage
- Marginally inferior colours compared to Air's screen
Apple Retina iPad mini
Sometimes it's the little things. Introduced in late 2012, the iPad mini was as slow as the iPad 2 (which was then almost two years old). It didn't have the gorgeous Retina display that Apple had added to the iPad earlier in the year.- High-resolution Retina display
- same A7 processor as iPad Air, High-resolution Retina display
- same A7 processor as iPad Air
- Camera not as good as on iPhones
- no Touch ID fingerprint detector, Camera not as good as on iPhones
- no Touch ID fingerprint detector
