An impressive audio performance makes this Yamaha a worthy contender with its more illustrious peers
Strong bass; excellent look and feel
Music seems focussed in the upper midrange to the detriment of overall communication

Yamaha clearly sees a stereo future for Super Audio CD – this is one of two new audio-only two-channel SACD/CD players from the company. Beautifully screwed together using substantial aluminium panels, it's a classy-looking piece of kit.
Style and solidity of build; excellent engineering; powerful yet sweet sound
Bettered by some for sheer impact; not without competition at this level
As big, heavy and imposing CD players go, the Yamaha CD-S1000 is one of the biggest, heaviest and most imposing, at least among affordable machines. The front panel's only slightly bigger than most, but the depth of the unit is remarkable and its use of extensive reinforcement in the base makes it...
tested this one versus older Maratz 5001 CD player. i couldnt believe my ears. this one sounds super clear, DYNAMIC and colorful. why have I used Marantz before everything sounds better with Yamaha, you experience different music, like your CD collection was remastered.
I bought the Yamaha CD-S300 a few months ago but upgraded to the CD-S1000. I also bought the S-2000 integrated amp. Both are silver and have matching blonde wood side trim. I tried my S300 first with my new amp and enjoyed the sound. But, when I switched to the S1000 I was amazed.
The Yamaha CD-S1000 Super Audio CD Player is a fantastic unit. Sound is very clear but not analytical. I can hear much more MUSIC using this Yamaha. It took 3 weeks to break in. The sound has been changing every day until it finalized.
Bought this player with a Yamaha AS-1100 amp, it's built like a tank and sounds really clear and detailed, combined with the smooth power of the amp these make fantastic high end sounding combo.
I have a high end audio system. An expensive all tube amplifier, an all tube preamp and expensive tube dac. Replaced a Cambridge audio CXC cd transport with the Yamaha. Big mistake- BIG. The CXC blows the Yamaha away in sound quality.
Quiet; smooth tray operation
Stopped spinning discs after 2 days; Incredibly bright and thin sounding
