As great as these drives are supposed to be, I've had several fail on me recently. Out of the last 8 I've bought for customer laptops, 3 have failed so far within the last month, and this is a serious, catastrophic failure.
I've installed 6 of these in the last year. All in laptops that see lots of travel and gamer level use. No errors yet.
Fast; Quiet; Long warranty
None so far
This drive is fast, but there's also a lot of vibration, even when the hard drive is idling. The WD Blue would have been a better choice for my plastic Macbook.
Hardest time was getting the current 160GB WD drive to clone over to the new WD drive. Tried MANY different products (CloneZilla/WD's cloning tool/Macrium Reflect) and various methods.
Fast performance; Quiet Operations
Difficult To Migrate Data; Wd 4k Formatting
While the Western Digital Scorpio Black 500GB laptop drive may not reach the dizzying heights scaled by desktop HDDs, it still is a satisfying product for those who'd like more speed but don't want to buy SSDs which offer low storage capacity currently.
The Western Digital Scorpio Black (WD5000BEKT) is a high-performance 2.5in notebook drive boasting a 7200rpm spin speed, 16MB of cache memory, a SATA 3 GB/s interface and 500GB of storage space. It will suit IT professionals, multimedia enthusiasts and anyone who craves more speed from their laptop.
Excellent value for money; 7200rpm spin speed; quiet during operation
Slightly slow at transferring smaller files
A perfect choice for my PS3 80gb. After i did the backup of my data, i only formatted the new HD and plugged it into the console. It worked perfectly from the first time and it still works. No problem. The best choice if you want to increase the capacity of your console.
I have purchased about a half dozen of these for upgrades for clients and all have worked perfectly and have nearly doubled overall performance in day to day apps on the laptops.
As fast as it gets for a non-SSD drive
Not a SSD drive
This hard drive transformed my aging White MacBook 13'' circa 2006... The thing is still running in 2015 without any issues (knock on wood).
This Western Digital is great for a laptop replacement or upgrade. 500gb, full 7,200 RPM, reliable, cheap and power efficient.. You can't ask for much more. You will notice a difference in your laptop's performance if you have a slower drive, and you won't lose battery life either.
