Valkyria Chronicles Remastered Review – JRPG Classic Gets a Minor Facelift

The Guinness Book Of World Record's "Best Strategy RPG for the PS3" has returned with an HD remake for the PS4. It's got the entirety of the original game, plus all of its DLC, and to this day it remains one of the most unique gaming experiences on the market.

Unique tactical JRPG/third person shooter gameplay; Gorgeous cell shaded/penciled anime style; Long game with lots of depth

Not much different from PS3 w/ DLC version; Story takes a while to get interesting

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered ...

Although Sega hasn't added anything to this PlayStation 4 port, Valkyria Chronicles Remastered remains an exciting mix of third-person shooting and strategy role-playing. The lengthy quest can be a bit wordy at times, but that doesn't overshadow the great visuals and fun missions.

Quite possibly the most boring game ever made

Quite possibly the most boring game ever made. Graphics are poor even for a PS3 port, I seriously doubt any "Remastering" was done. This game is so bad I am actually a little angry about it.

PS4 Review - 'Valkyria Chronicles Remastered'

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered is set in a fictitious continent reminiscent of 1930s Europe - divided in two and ruled by the Empire and the Federation. The game follows a hero named Welkin and his fellow soldiers of the Federation's 7th Platoon as they engage in a series of epic battles.

Amazing story!

Amazing game, no it's an amazing story, no it is both and it is near perfect.

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered PS4 Review

A low-cost way to play one of the best sleeper hits of last gen.

Feels like a 2016 game – highly entertaining; All DLC is included and looks gorgeous in HD; Trophy support

Getting one-hit killed from a random soldier can be frustratingly unfair; No newly created content

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered

In a console generation that has become increasingly overrun with remakes and remasters, it is easy to understand why some have begun to take a rather cynical approach to these releases. Personally, it is very rare that I hear about one of these releases and get excited.

Sega somehow managed to make the game look EVEN MORE amazing on PS4; Everything that you loved about the game the first time around is back and better than ever

All of the cheap, end-of-battle, twist shenanigans are still as prevalent the second time around; Some of the more sizable missions tend to go on for too long

War never changes, it always brings with it calamity and disaster. This is exactly the case in Gallia, a small town caught in the cross hairs of a War between the Empire and the Federation, battling over the land resource known as Ragnite.

Beautiful art style | Superb soundtrack | Well designed maps | Excellent character development | Well crafted game mechanics to ensure a challenging play-through

Still cannot skip the enemy phase | Not much is included in the remastered version besides the original DLC on the PS3

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered

So Valkyria Chronicles came out on the Playstation 3 originally, but that might as well be a thousand years ago, so I'm going to cover it in this review as if it was a new title, and as if you, fellow reader, had never visited nor heard of the continent of Europa and its not-quite-world-war (okay,...

Great cel-shaded-watercolor visuals; excellent blend of real-time and turn-based mechanics; lots of personality in troops; new trophy support

Speed is favoured over strategy for ranking; disconnect between friendly, cheery storyline and grim war; nothing significant in new version for those that played the original
