Just when you thought that you saw the last spin-off release of the never ending Street Fighter II , we get yet another version released, this time for the Nintendo Switch with Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers .

While we were very much excited by the prospect of getting a definitive and portable version of Street Fighter II, a game that we've loved for years and have played in arcades and on home console, it took only a matter of hours for Capcom to KO that excitement.

is a Nintendo Switch reimagining of with a bit of thrown in for good measure, alongside a bunch of new features and balance changes. Now, I'm not going to remind you that is a great game. You know that already from playing any one of its countless iterations.

Somewhere in Ultra Street Fighter II is a brilliant game – and why wouldn't there be After all, Capcom's fighting classic has achieved not only a cult following in the 26 years since its original release, but is still a fixture at tournaments and house parties.

If the only question you have prior to playing Ultra Street Fighter II is "I want to know if this is the ultimate version of Street Fighter II", then chances are you're going to come away impressed.

It's a shame, because in many ways Street Fighter is perfect for Nintendo Switch. Going with a retro-themed release on the console makes a lot of sense. The Final Challengers is quick to get going, with super fast loading times.

It's been fun playing this with friends and family but with a hefty price tag I was underwhelmed foe the following reasons: The new single player mode which lets you use your motion controllers to re-enact moves like Hadouken isn't great and gets boring quickly.

It's been over 25 years since Street Fighter II first debuted and it is still arguably the best fighting game ever made (even though Mortal Kombat fans might disagree). Since it's initial debut, it has been re-released countless times.

There's no doubt that Street Fighter II proverbially changed the game when it came to the fighting game genre. From being one of Capcom's best selling titles to revitalising a genre, Street Fighter II has a strong legacy that's tough to not feel the effects of.
