Ultimate Ears MegaBoom 3

Super-portable, super sound. Welcome to the Logitech UE BOOM 3 Portable Bluetooth Speaker!

Better sound than before

Ultimate Ears unique processing belts out clear and balanced audio regardless of the volume level. The 360-degree built-in sound is beautifully balanced, while deep and satisfying bass notes punctuate each track.

Stylish sound

The two-tone fabric covering the speaker is great to look at, but it's tough as well. The textile has been designed for extreme applications, like motorcycle jackets and fire equipment, so you know it is built to last.

Nearly unbreakable

The toughness continues with the construction of the BOOM 3. It has survived more than 25 tough durability tests, including thousands of button pushes, tumbles, drop tests, and more. Party hard with a speaker that's even harder!

Wet and wild

The BOOM 3 boasts an incredible IP67 water and dustproof rating. It can be submerged under water for up to half an hour, and when it comes back to the surface it will float, while STILL playing your favourite music.

Introducing the Magic Button

One button on the BOOM 3 lets you play, pause and skip tracks directly on the speaker, while one push lets you control streamed music. You can even set up one-touch playlists for Apple Music and Deezer Premium via the app. That really is one magic button.

A party-friendly battery

When the music stops, the party ends. Thankfully, the party goes on and on with 15-hour battery life! The BOOM 3 runs on the same battery technology as some electric cars, so it will go the distance as far as your party is concerned.

For almost as long as the current, Bluetooth-based, incarnation of the category has existed, the company have been a dominant force within it. This isn't to say their products aren't always perfect - but they've generally sat in the sweet spot when it comes to balancing portability and...

Ultimate Ears UE Megaboom 3

If you're willing to pay more money more power, the larger JBL Boombox is bigger and louder, but over twice the price. If you want to save some money but still want a rugged speaker, the small Anker Soundcore Flare provides solid audio and a colorful light show for just $70.

Powerful sound with good clarity in the high-mids; Rugged build; Long battery life

Can falter with intense deep bass; No wired connection

UE Megaboom 3: A boombastic floating speaker

If you've got a budget of around £200 and you're looking for a waterproof speaker, it's up to you to decide what you value more. At the time of writing, both the Megablast and Megaboom 3 are similarly priced at £180 and £170, respectively and they're both IP67-certified.

Waterproof (IP67) and floats; Sumptuous design; Integrates with streaming services over Bluetooth

Doesn't sound as good as the UE Megablast; No Bluetooth aptX support

Ultimate Ears UE Megaboom 3 Review

The Ultimate Ears UE Megaboom is finally getting a refresh, and it's skipping a number in the process. The new model is called the Megaboom 3, keeping pace with the Boom 3 launched alongside it (the original Megaboom speaker was a contemporary of the Boom 2). It features a few new tricks, like a programmable button for accessing playlists, but otherwise it's simply a sleeker, more rugged version of its predecessor. That's compelling enough on its own, but with a $199.99 price tag, it's more affordable than the original Megaboom to boot. Big, Sturdy Can The Megaboom 3 looks like a slightly sleeker version of the Megablast and the original Megaboom. It uses the same large, cylindrical design (8.7 inches tall and 3.4 inches around, and weighing two pounds) as the rest of the line, with a colorful wraparound fabric cover (available in blue, gray, purple, or red) and rubber end caps. This time, the signature plus and minus volume buttons are placed in the middle of the fabric itself ra...

The wireless Ultimate Ears UE Megaboom 3 speaker improves upon its predecessor with a sleeker, more rugged design and a lower price tag.

Ultimate Ears Megaboom 3 review

• Buy Megaboom 3 exclusively at John Lewis (until October) The Megaboom 3 improves on the winning formula of its waterproof, cylindrical predecessor, and is an excellent speaker. It's actually only the second Megaboom, but as Ultimate Ears is also putting out a new Boom (a smaller sibling to this)...

Waterproof; dustproof (IP67 rated) and also floats; Improved controls and charging port; Excellent value for money; Loud; clear; bassy audio performance

If we're nitpicking; the sound is still good rather than great

Ultimate Ears UE Megaboom 3 review: Booming excellence

Ultimate Ears makes some of the best Bluetooth speakers around. If you're in the market for a portable, waterproof speaker that will deliver when it comes to bass and volume, the UE line-up is an excellent place to look.

Great design; Waterproof and dustproof; Brilliant sound quality; Great battery life; It floats in water; Boosts bass compared to original model (yay!

Power Up charging dock not included; Magic Button playlist feature currently limited; Won't pair in stereo with original Megaboom (boo!

UE Megaboom 3 review

The previous generation UE Boom 2 was one of our favorite waterproof speakers of all-time and for good reason – it had a rugged design that could take a beating, got incredibly loud, and sounded great for the money.

Class-leading battery life; Gets incredibly loud; Punchy sound

Recessed mids; Bass sounds loose at high volume; Charging dock not included
