The Last of Us Part II review

Just as The Last of Us showed the previous generation at its best, The Last of Us Part II is another masterful triumph from Naughty Dog, a rare superior sequel that can be uttered in the same breath as The Godfather Part II. An unparalleled masterclass in everything it does, not to mention an extensive suite of accessibility options that every game should adopt as the standard, it’s a game with a story that challenges us with no easy answers but which we’ll be discussing long into the next generation.

Astonishing graphics, sound design and performances; Bold ambitious story with unpredictable narrative arcs; Incredibly detailed environments to explore; Varied approaches to combat encounters;

Not a game for escaping reality;

Graphically superb, but not much else

It looks incredible, especially on a PS4 PRO. The environments and character models are detailed to the point that I was left believing this could be an early PS5 game. On the gameplay side of things, there isn't really anything groundbreaking. It's a simple enough third-person shooter with stealth and crafting elements. Can't say much about the story. It's not particularly complex, and isn't very satisfying to watch unfold. All in all I'd say it's an average experience, mostly carried by the technical aspect of the game. This is what a triple A title should LOOK like, but falls short in pretty much every other department. I'd recommend watching a playthrough on your favorite video streaming service. Don't buy it.

An excellent story worth experiencing for yourself.

I went into this game without any spoilers and vague knowledge that people were mad about the game for some reason. After playing through for the last week, I can happily say it's the most intense, evocative game I've played since Red Dead 2 and I'm lucky to have gone in blind. It carries the weight of the first game's decision at it's core and is fantastic at playing on emotion and using to tell a gripping story. Gameplay wise it's just as good as the first game with added features across the board. There's a good balance of exploration, puzzles and visceral combat. The difficulty is adjustable at each aspect, including puzzle difficulty, enemy detection, enemy tactics, loot amount etc, so you can tweak the challenge to your satisfaction. A slew of accessibility options allow more people to enjoy the game as they please, and can be great fun in their own right like with the slow-motion combat option. If you genuinely loved the first game, you'll love this one too.

Ignore the hate and the 10/10 reviews

It seems most critics and haters don't know what they are talking about. If you want an honest review then look here. This game is good, but definitely not 10/10 masterpiece. Lots of gameplay and graphical improvements over 1st game obviously. Story is where its decisive, there are pacing issues and the story can get messy sometimes but overall its good. Just don't go expecting it to be better than the 1st, its not. For me I give it 8/10. Its worth the purchase if you are a big fan of 1st game and have an open mind (go with it and don't be a baby having a tantrum because of how certain characters are treated) .

The Last of Us Part II review: A dark masterpiece

Releasing a follow-up to a deeply beloved game is daunting and can easily leave fans disappointed. The Last of Us Part II pulls the feat off effortlessly. This sequel expands on what was already a well-crafted story and perfects it. It does the first release justice, expanding on the original without straying too far, which could alienate fans hoping to get a taste of what they loved the first time around. If you haven’t experienced the original check it out at the link below. The Last of Us weighs heavily on this entry, as the ramifications of Joel’s actions have sprawling effects, and history does not go unforgotten. Ellie and Joel have made a new life in Jackson, Wyoming, but the game lets players know that moving on isn’t so simple. The plot is certainly dark, but it never feels edgy. There’s a sense of empathy even for your enemies. Obviously, the game packs plenty of unexpected twists that make The Last of Us Part II feel emotionally and narratively polished. There are Easter egg...

Deep emotional impact; Well-written narrative; Stunning visuals; Fine-tuned gameplay mechanics; Characters are fully developed and believable; High level of detail in-game and in options;

Gating inhibits more full exploration;
