I got this for my Nephew, he's totally engaged with the game, very beautiful to view and the developing relationship between the two main characters is like that bond that grows with a young puppy.
Some old moviemaking advice pays off big time for The Last Guardian : In spite of some problematic controls and camerawork and a story that manages to be simultaneously vague and generic, the whole endeavor is better thanks to the inclusion of a dog.
Calling The Last Guardian "a product of its time" may seem like a misnomer, but, considering the game's troubled development, it isn't surprising that the long-awaited followup to Shadow of the Colossus feels a bit dated now that it's finally here in 2016.
The relationship at its core is wonderful; Lovely score; The cooperative nature of its gameplay is really interesting
...until it becomes a constant hassle thanks to a disobedient AI character; Character movement is flimsy and clunky; Camera is unbearable at times
Beauty, the Beast, and Boredom
The divide between the highs and lows of is staggering. For every wonderful moment of absolute beauty and emotional attachment to its lifelike companion, there's an equal and opposite baffling moment that ruins the mood with frustrating controls and camera angles.
With such a long and tortured development, the question was never "Can The Last Guardian live up to expectations?"; but rather, "How much does The Last Guardian fail to live up to expectations?". There are moments of beauty in this game, and for that reason alone it's worth playing.
