So, it's finally here. The Last Guardian, which has been in development since 2007 and in the public eye since 2009, is finally gracing our consoles. Honestly, for probably the first time ever. I put the disc into my console without knowing what to expect.
Trico is a brilliant, believable beast; Gentle pace interspersed with intensely dramatic moments; Beautiful, watercolour-like presentation and fantastic sound;
Trico won’t always do what he’s supposed to; Often irritating camera; Sluggish, inaccurate controls;
The waiting game is a curious beast. It messes with your head and the longer you wait for something the higher your expectations rise. What sort of expectations do you think arise from a waiting game of nearly ten years?
Trico absolutely lives and breathes; Emotionally taught narrative; Stunning in presentation
Camera and control can be frustrating; Very noticeable clipping and framerate drops; Controlling Trico is epically painful
I've been waiting for this game since seeing the first trailers for it back when it was to be released on the PS3. Very visually appealing. If you're a fan of Japan Studio's Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and Rain, you'll definitely enjoy this game.
The Last Guardian is an action adventure game set in a strange and mystical land where a young boy discovers a mysterious creature with which he forms a deep, unbreakable bond.
It took an eternity, but it feels surreal that you can head to your favourite retailer right now and ask for a copy of The Last Guardian . It's there, it's real and it's the final chapter in a trilogy we've been promised for close to a decade. How can this ever live up to expectations?
The puzzles are oldschool but fantastic | Staring at Trico's amazing feathered detail | Growing attached to the characters in this world
Trico's natural instincts might annoy some players | It has to end
The Last Guardian is a beautiful yet flawed game on the PlayStation 4
