Despite its flaws, The Last Guardian is my favorite game I've played this year. The camera breaks immersion through some great moments and Trico won't always listen but that in no way outweighs the highs of the story and the connection I felt to my new pet.

The Last Guardian was every bit worth the wait. The Last Guardian is a tale of young boy taken from his village and whisked away to walled ancient ruins, impervious to anything but the giant winged Trico – a part avian, part mammalian creature.

You encounter these issues a fair bit over the course of the journey, and they make you want to headbutt your TV, but they're invariably followed by something brilliant or beautiful, or both.

It took an eternity, but it feels surreal that you can head to your favourite retailer right now and ask for a copy of The Last Guardian . It's there, it's real and it's the final chapter in a trilogy we've been promised for close to a decade. How can this ever live up to expectations?

The Last Guardian began life on the PS3 and was named as the third game from Ico and Shadow of the Colossus creator Fumito Ueda. But years of no-shows at E3 and issues with hardware meant it had to be moved to PS4, but even then most thought it'd never see the light of day.

So, it's finally here. The Last Guardian, which has been in development since 2007 and in the public eye since 2009, is finally gracing our consoles. Honestly, for probably the first time ever. I put the disc into my console without knowing what to expect.
