Exploring Terraria A Second Time

Welcome Time Wasters! This week I went back to play a game that I've already reviewed once before, Terraria. Normally I wouldn't review a game twice, but Terraria recently had a huge update (Version 1.2) that came out and added tons of extra content.

I Always Feel Like Something is Watching Me

It was dawn when I woke up at the boundary between a desert and a forest, with no idea of how I had gotten there or how I would get away. I didn't waste any time. Rather than focusing on the troubling how of my predicament, I set off into the woods to punch down a tree with my fists.

Flipping gravity and rocketing into the sky

Trying (and failing multiple times) to face the first boss solo

Terraria

Terraria is a dangerous game. It lures you in with strong promises of large scale fights and unique items and doesn't ever let you go. Many people are quick to dismiss Terraria because of its immediate similarities to Minecraft, and these people are really doing themselves a disservice.

Terraria

All in all, with its simple but effective interface, nostalgic sounds and vast open world, Terraria is a game of almost unlimited scope and enjoyment, provided you are willing to put the hours in to get proficient at the tasks the game requires you to perform.

Terraria

While it might be tempting to dismiss Terraria as a simple 2D Minecraft knockoff, its heavy focus on sidescrolling combat, boss fights, and crazy weaponry reveals just as large a debt to classics like Metroid and Castlevania.

Terraria (PC) Review

I love Minecraft, I do. I was hooked on it for a while, and if not for a time crunch, I still would be. Even now I run a server for those of my friends with more enduring addictions. But comparing this game to Minecraft with one less dimension doesn't even come close to describing it.

Terraria

The statement is reductive, but true: Terraria is a two-dimensional Minecraft . The game plops you into a randomly generated world-a side-scrolling cross-section of planet with woods and water on the crust and a labyrinth of caves beneath.

Dual Review: Terraria and Universe Sandbox

Some games just aren't long enough for their own reviews, but are still important enough to deserve some attention. With that in mind we present the first of our Indy Shorts reviews. This week I turn my attention to two recently released titles on Steam: Terraria and Universe Sandbox.
