It's been a slow start for Broadcom's entry into the MU-MIMO router market. The company's 4x4 802.11ac chipset made its first appearence in super-high-end AC5300 class routers like NETGEAR's R8500 Nighthawk X8 and ASUS' RT-AC5300 late last year.

TP-Link Archer C3150 802.11AC Router Review

It is fairly safe to say that the Wi-Fi 802.11ac marketplace is in the midst of an old fashioned 'Megahertz War' with two main companies pushing the speed boundaries. On one side is Broadcom and their latest MU-MIMO-based take on 802.11ac, while on the other side is Qualcomm, both pushing...

TP-Link Archer C3150 Wireless MU-MIMO Gigabit Router

Today we' have a new router from TP-Link on our bench and to be honest, this is my first time I've had a chance to spend some quality time with a TP-Link product. While TP-Link may not conjure up visions of excellent performance and quality, they probably should.
Pros:
  • Great wireless performance (best we've testing on client devices
  • Dual-band configuration with robust guest access
  • MU-MIMO works well
  • Full file server/FTP/Print options integrated
  • Real bandwidth control - not just machine priority
Cons:
  • I wish I knew it was this good sooner
  • It would have saved me money

Defective

The router turned out to be defective. I sent it in to the manufacturer for a replacement. I should have gone with Netgear.

TP-LINK Archer C3150 WiFi Cable & Fibre Router - AC 3150, Dual-band

Cons:
  • Big bad point with this unit is that it does not have a modem built in ! Didn`t notice this when I purchased it and have had no end of grief getting a separate modem to work

Easy Setup, Super Fast

I use my home wifi for home office, media streaming, home automation, gaming, you name it. I couldn't be happier with this router. I get MUCH better performance, both up and down, and the range covers my entire house.

Disappointed, it didn't last

It worked well for the first month, after the second month the 2G network disappeared, which was a problem for a few devices that only support 2G. It appears the 2GHz network had burnt out, but the 5GHz was still working great.
