Sony ZV-1

The Sony ZV-1 is one of the best vlogger cameras on the market. It's compact, easy-to-use and feature packed.

Immaculate images

Any decent vlogger needs better than decent images and the Sony ZV-1 Vlog Camera really delivers in this department. That's thanks to a 20.1MP 1.0-type Exmor RS CMOS image sensor, wide-aperture lens, and a BIONZ X image processing engine for highly detailed images. To prove you're no amateur, you can achieve professional background bokeh in low-light environments.

A smooth operator

Thanks to AI technology, the Sony ZV-1's auto focus sticks to your face when you need it, but the Fast Hybrid AF system lets you quickly focus on another subject, allowing for a smooth transition that is the mark of the more professional vlogger.

Anywhere, any conditions

Thanks to outstanding image stabilisation, the ZV-1 allows for smooth footage while you're on the move. Meanwhile, with automatic exposure you can easily adapt to lighting changes and keep the images looking sharp and bright.

The sound is as good as the footage

Audio quality is just as important as video when it comes to vlogging and the Sony ZV-1 is brilliant in this department as well. It comes with a directional 3-capsule microphone and a wind screen which gives you optimum sound no matter where you're recording.

Share your footage with ease

What's the point of being a vlogger if the rest of the world can't see what you've recorded? Thanks to a quick download of the Imaging Edge mobile app, the Sony ZV-1 Camera lets you easily transfer images to your compatible smartphone, edit them, and upload to your social channels of choice.

Sony ZV-1 Digital Camera ZV1 review

When we 1st started TGSB’s blog/YouTube channel, we only had a Canon PowerShot point-and-shoot camera. And haven’t really used one ever since. A few weeks back, we got the opportunity to review Sony’s latest point-and-shoot camera targeted to vloggers & content creators: the ZV-1.

Sony ZV-1 Digital Camera ZV1 review

The Sony ZV-1 is a beginner-friendly camera perfect for on the go shooting and vlogging. While some of the features are borderline gimmicks, the core vlogging features are solid.

Sony ZV-1 Digital Camera ZV1 review

The ZV-1 is Sony’s first RX100-series camera designed specifically for vlogging. It does that job well thanks to a lightweight body, built-in high-quality microphone, flip-out display, best-in-class autofocus and excellent image quality.

Small and lightweight; Fast autofocus with reliable face/eye tracking; Built-in high-quality microphone; Fully articulating screen; Good video quality

Lens needs to be wider; No headphone port; Limited touch screen functions

Sony ZV-1 Digital Camera ZV1 review

The Sony ZV-1 is a pocketable camera with strong still image quality and features geared specifically toward vloggers.

Compact form factor; Flip-out touch screen; Bright; sharp zoom lens; Excellent in-camera audio; External mic and flash support; 4K video capture

A wider-angle lens would be welcome; Limited touch features; Face detection struggles when wearing protective mask; Underwhelming battery life; No in-camera flash

Sony ZV-1 Review

The Sony ZV-1 ($799.99) is the company's first compact camera built just for vloggers. It shares a lot of its tech with the RX100 family, including the lens from the RX100 VA and the imaging engine from the RX100 VII. Those models are stills-first, though, while with the ZV-1 you get a more video-friendly design, with a flip-forward LCD and a best-in-class internal microphone. It's a good camera for vloggers, but not a home run—the lens is a little tight for walk-and-talk footage, and the battery life is underwhelming.Small Enough for Pockets The ZV-1 is a small camera, just 2.4 by 4.2 by 1.7 inches (HWD) and 10.4 ounces. Its lens doesn't completely retract into the body—it juts out a little bit—but it's compact enough for most pockets. Sony has opted for a composite material for the body, a departure from the metal exterior used by the RX100 series. It's a fine change if you ask me—the body feels solid and the finish is likely to hold up better over time. There's still a bit of m...

Sony ZV-1 Digital Camera ZV1 review

It's easy to find little quirks and oddities, and things that you wish that Sony would fix. NTSC/PAL switchover being the most annoying of them in my opinion. If you want to switch from 25fps, to 30fps, you need to switch from PAL to NTSC, and the camera requires a different memory card, or for the...

Defocus / Clear Background works very well; Product focus for video works extremely well; For video; this camera is exceptional (it just works); Compact and lightweight; Fast; reliable focus; Good colour reproduction; Good noise performance; Deadcat included

Tripod socket too close to the battery compartment; Long menu system feels disorganised; PAL/NTSC switch for 30/25fps requires card change/format; Lacks built-in flash; Screen dims and can be difficult to view outdoors; MicroUSB connection

Designed specifically for vloggers but also a capable stills camera; Stabilised 4K video; Vari-angle touchscreen

No viewfinder built-in; The redesigned grip is best for left-handers

Sony ZV-1 Digital Camera ZV1 review

The Sony ZV-1 is a huge leap forward in merging the accessibility of a smartphone and the proficiency of a dedicated camera into one device. It's not perfect, and we hope to see its overheating issues and convoluted menus resolved in its eventual successor, but as a first attempt, Sony has created...

Unbelievable mic quality; Top-tier autofocus; Instant bokeh mode

Can overheat indoors; Convoluted menus that are a pain to use; Micro-USB rather than USB-C
