Reviewed: The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium\n
Anyone hoping for a real wow factor with this phone based on the specs or the marketing hype will be sadly disappointed. While the Z5 Premium isn't a bad phone by any stretch, it simply doesn't live up to that hype or the pretty steep retail price.
Pros:
- Pretty good looking
- Decent camera
- Great fingerprint scanner
Cons:
- Complete lack of 4K content made available by Sony
- Glossy fingerprint magnet
- Far too expensive for what you actually get over the other Z5 phones

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Review: Living Life In (Sort Of) 4K
You're looking at about $700 to get your hands on this phone, and that's not even for a North American version with proper warranty support. I'm not sure what Sony's plans are for the Z5 series going forward, but it would be nice to at least have the option of buying one here.
Pros:
- Fingerprint reader The fingerprint reader is a nice thing to have, and putting it in the power button is smart, Battery life Two solid days of moderate use
- Seven hours of screen time in a single heavy day is possible, Build quality Water-resistant design with metal frame.
Cons:
- Display again Almost never runs at 4K resolution
- Causes streaming apps to max out at 1080p, Snapdragon 810 It gets warm and throttles, but not as badly as some other phones, Buttons The volume rocker is too low on the body of the phone to be used comfortably, Design Sony's phones all have this same...

Blame it on the likes of OnePlus, Xiaomi, Lenovo and co, but any phone that is released with a price tag in excess of Rs 30,000 these days has its task cut out in terms of justifying what it's delivering for that much.

Customers looking for a new smartphone with a checklist of features will find the Z5 Premium easily stands up against its competitors. In some areas it exceeds other devices on the market. With the Z5 Premium, Sony has taken an interesting approach – and it's all in the name. Premium.

Rewind to the end of 2014 and the start of 2015, and Sony's Xperia Z3 found much favour with us at Ausdroid. The standard "full size" unit was a firm favourite with Chris, and the Z3 Compact found itself my phone of choice for several months.
Pros:
- Extremely comfortable and playfully chunky Compact hardware
- Excellent fingerprint reader with smart placement (though not so good for off-hand use
- Learn the quirks and it'll serve you well
Cons:
- The camera isn't as good as Sony would like us to believe
- Neither is the battery life – power users need to carry a power pack or have a charger on hand
- Inexcusable pauses and slowdowns
- despite updates in the interim
- Rear lip is a turn-off on the standard and Premium units

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium
The Sony Z5 Premium has taken some time to get here. Unlike its smaller Xperia brethren , which arrived in South Africa last year, the 5.5" Premium only landed more recently. As such, it's going up against some tough competition, with the Galaxy S7 edge (review) and LG G5 (review) already setting a...
Pros:
- Superbly crisp display
- Solid camera performance
- Good battery life
- Generous screen real estate
Cons:
- Difficult to handle
- Back cover heats up when multitasking
