Sony Xperia Z5 Premium - Marketing over matter
Sony's Xperia Z5 Premium takes the honour of being the world's first smartphone to feature a 4K display. Squeezing over eight million pixels into a 5.5-inch screen is an impressive feat, but it feels like Sony's engineers never asked themselves if they should.- Water resistance
- Side-facing fingerprint reader is great
- 4K screen is kinda cool
- Only two apps can utilise 4K resolutions
- Inconsistent camera
- Dated design
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium review: 4K forte
The Xperia Z5 Premium is, according to Sony, the first smartphone with a 4K screen. This means it has an insane pixel density of 807 ppi. Its other remarkable feature is its high price. Is it justified by 4K resolution and the Z5 Premium's other features?- Display quality
- Outstanding camera
- Quick-charging functionality
- Water resistant
- High price
- Battery capacity
Not what I expected
My main reason for buying this phone was the support for Hi Res audio as well as the desire to get away from iTunes and use a normal method for transferring and organizing my music. I am a headphone junkie and have a few pairs of high end headphones.- High resolution screen
- great battery life
- Sound quality not as good as advertised
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Dual
4k is very special.- Higher ppi good design
- Gpu and snapdragon is a bit lower at this price
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium review: Astonishing resolution results in an astonishing price
Don't be tempted by the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium's attention-grabbing 4K screen. You can spend less money on a better all-round flagship phone. Sony's Xperia Z5 premium is the flagship phone Sony has owed us for a long time. While the standard Z5 was a fairly uninspiring reissue of the brilliant Z3, the Z5 Premium packs a bigger screen with a whopping 4K resolution, which is 3,840x2,160 pixels. It's the first phone to have a 4K resolution and it's the highest resolution I've ever seen on a phone.- Sony's Xperia Z5 Premium has a gorgeous
- pin-sharp screen
- it's powerful
- packs a solid camera and won't die when you spill your drink on it.
- Its 4K display results in a sky-high price, but the extra resolution adds nothing to the overall experience
- Sony's familiar design is beginning to look rather tired.
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium review
Sony has gone and done it: this is the first ever 4K screen on a smartphone. That's the big headline for the largest of the Xperia Z5 family, and it's a truly remarkable feat from the company.
This isn't as clear cut as I'd like it to be. The Z5 Premium, with its name and its look-at-me mirrored finish, had to be perfect. It also had to justify Sony's decision to fit that crazy UHD screen and boast about the massive pixel count, but it doesn't.
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium review
Big, powerful and certainly ‘Premium', but it's not a Samsung-killer.- Feels expensive
- Handy waterproofing
- High-quality screen
- Quite bulky
- Most rivals have better low-light photo quality
- 4K display is largely meaningless

Sony's Xperia Z5 Premium is the biggest of the new Xperia Z5 family and also a moment in history, thanks to that world-first 4K screen. In truth it's more of a pub brag than a genuinely useful feature, but the Premium is still a solid media machine that also boasts an excellent camera and strong...
- Slick design
- Great camera
- Sharp
- attractive screen
