Sony Xperia Z5 Premium review
Sony has gone and done it: this is the first ever 4K screen on a smartphone. That's the big headline for the largest of the Xperia Z5 family, and it's a truly remarkable feat from the company.
Review
I actually have this phone, and it is amazing! Nice big vivid screen, stylish gorgeous looks that make you want to double take. Gives you a really good quality premium feel for a phone.
Sony unveiled its flagship smartphone lineup for 2015, and instead of the two variants that most were expecting, we got three - the Sony Xperia Z5 , the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact , and the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium .
- Good
- Looks good
- Good battery life
- Strong all-round performance
- Weatherproof
- Bad, Heats up quickly, Pre-installed bloatware, Not competitive enough, Slow camera
- No Burst mode
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium review
A 4K smartphone might seem like something you want but you really don't need it and it's an expensive card to play in order to trump your mates. The device is also big, uncomfortable and brash.
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Hands-on, First Impressions: Does the 4K Display Really Make A Difference?
We go hands-on with Sony's Xperia Z5 Premium! In today's world having a QHD display resolution is almost mandatory for flagships. Sure, there are a few brands that stubbornly stick with plain ol' full HD, but QHD is where it's at.
This isn't as clear cut as I'd like it to be. The Z5 Premium, with its name and its look-at-me mirrored finish, had to be perfect. It also had to justify Sony's decision to fit that crazy UHD screen and boast about the massive pixel count, but it doesn't.
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium
The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium's headline feature is its 4k screen - the first in any smartphone. But look beyond the headline, and you'll find one of the most glamorous phones of 2015, with killer features all round. Our heart was won over by the near-perfect design and mirror chrome finish.
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium
The Sony Xperia Z5 Premium is a an expensive, no-compromise Android phone. It's Sony's equivalent to the iPhone 6S Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge . In terms of design, each of those phones has a stand-out feature: 3D touch in the iPhone; curved sides on the Edge.- High-quality screen
- Good performance
- Expandable memory
- Camera speed and low-light quality doesn't match best
- Expensive
- 4K display not much use
- Screen-on battery life worse than previous years
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium review: Astonishing resolution results in an astonishing price
Don't be tempted by the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium's attention-grabbing 4K screen. You can spend less money on a better all-round flagship phone. Sony's Xperia Z5 premium is the flagship phone Sony has owed us for a long time. While the standard Z5 was a fairly uninspiring reissue of the brilliant Z3, the Z5 Premium packs a bigger screen with a whopping 4K resolution, which is 3,840x2,160 pixels. It's the first phone to have a 4K resolution and it's the highest resolution I've ever seen on a phone.- Sony's Xperia Z5 Premium has a gorgeous
- pin-sharp screen
- it's powerful
- packs a solid camera and won't die when you spill your drink on it.
- Its 4K display results in a sky-high price, but the extra resolution adds nothing to the overall experience
- Sony's familiar design is beginning to look rather tired.
Sony Xperia Z5 Premium review
Big, powerful and certainly ‘Premium', but it's not a Samsung-killer.- Feels expensive
- Handy waterproofing
- High-quality screen
- Quite bulky
- Most rivals have better low-light photo quality
- 4K display is largely meaningless
