Put on Sony's WH-1000XM3 wireless noise cancelling headphones and it's clear immediately why there's a lot to like about these much-praised travel companions.
Sony promise more sound and less noise in these awesome WH-1000XM3 headphones!
Sony have always been front runners in developing noise cancelling technology, but it seems they've outdone themselves in their WH-1000XM3 headphones. The noise cancellation technology in these headphones is described as "our most advanced ever", with close fitting ear pads and HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1 combining to ensure that Sony stays ahead of the pack.
Headphones can be smart, and in the case of the WH-1000XM3 model, they're super smart. Their advanced noise cancelling technology such as Adaptive Sound Control is a prime example, while other smart features include Quick Attention, which quickly turns down music, call sound, and ringtone to allow ambient sound to be heard easily, plus Voice Assistant compatibility and touch control.
Noise cancellation is one thing...what about the sounds? LDAC, Sony's new wireless audio technology transmits about three times more data than conventional BLUETOOTH wireless audio. This means you can now enjoy audio content that approaches a dedicated wired connection.
The dedicated NC processor in the WH-1000XM3 headphones ensures reproduction of your music is not compromised at any stage, even by processor performance.
Many of us use headphones while we're flying. Sony understands this so they've introduced Unique Atmospheric Pressure Optimizing to their WH-1000XM3 headphones. This delivers optimal sound at high altitude.

To reiterate, Bose still offers the best overall noise cancellation on the market. But Sony's WH-1000XM3 headphones are a very close second in the ANC performance department, and they offer a better audio experience.
Excellent audio performance with superb bass depth and high-frequency clarity; High-quality noise cancellation; App includes adjustable EQ and ANC controls; Plush, comfortable fit
Expensive; ANC affects sound signature slightly; Cable lacks inline remote
In recent years, Sony has been one of the few serious contenders to dethrone Bose as the top manufacturer of noise-cancelling Bluetooth headphones. In terms of audio performance, its new $349.99 WH-1000XM3 headphones come out on top, with drivers that deliver excellent bass depth and high-frequency clarity, with in-app EQ to dial in your preferences if the sound signature is a bit too bass-heavy or bright for your taste. The ANC (active noise cancellation) is also fantastic, though Bose still has a slight edge there. Ultimately, the Sony WH-1000XM3 headphones are for those who place audio performance on a higher pedestal than noise cancellation—but still want excellent examples of both—and earn our Editors' Choice alongside the QuietComfort 35 II. Design Available in beige or black, the circumaural (over-ear) WH-1000XM3 headphones are, from a physical perspective, all about comfort and less about style. I have owned the Bose for many years and have been happy with them. But these Sony's are on another level for sound isolation and quality audio. I can't think of anything that can be improved upon here.
The 100ABN was Sony’s first shot at challenging Bose’s dominant position in the premium, noise-cancellation headphones segment, but it’s the 1000X series that has established the company here.
The Sony WH-1000XM3 retails at Rs 29,990. With this, Sony promises better audio performance, alongside already excellent active noise cancellation. The headset also offers fast charging and over twenty hours of battery life.
Sound quality is amazing, would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking for something with great sound and comfort!
The improvements Sony have packed into the WH-1000XM3 make it significantly better than its predecessors, and that puts it in good stead to compete with the Bose QC35 II, which have remained the benchmark noise cancellation headphones. It is too close to call.
Sony has released the third generation of its WH-1000x series noise cancelling headphones a minor upgrade from its predecessor that goes a long way
Excellent noise cancellation performance; Great battery life; Headphone connect app offers plenty of useful customisation options
Exposed charging and 3.5mm port susceptible to liquid damage; Sound signature is slightly bass-biased
There are few products that manage to take a giant step forward with every successive iteration. Sony's 1000XM line of headphones is one such product that not only excels on their own but has taken the competition head-on. The XM2 doubled battery but generally played it safe.
