Sony WF-1000XM3 review: simply the best true wireless headphones

Mission accomplished for Sony. The Japanese manufacturer rides on the success of its ANC over-ear headphones. The WF-1000XM3 are the best true wireless headphones around at the moment.

Active noise-canceling; Very good battery life; Sound quality; Sony app; Price

No wireless charging; No waterproofing; Disappointing hands-free car kit; No volume control commands

Sony WF-1000XM3 True Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones - Black WF1000XM3B review

With the WF-1000X, Sony was already playing at the top of the True Wireless league over two years ago. Now the manufacturer is sending a fresh player out onto the highly competitive playing field with this new second version.

Sony WF-1000XM3 True Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones - Black WF1000XM3B review

If it isn’t already apparent, the Sony WF-1000XM3 checked all of my boxes. Some bugs on the phone app could be improved in future updates, and they work just as fine without the companion app.

Sony WF-1000XM3 review: True wireless in-ears with class-leading ANC

Impressive adaptive noise-cancellation; Superb audio performance; Great battery life; Comfortable fit

No splash- or sweat-resistance; No aptX support

Sony WF-1000XM3 review: true wireless headphones redefined with noise cancelling

The WF-1000XM3 are eagerly awaited new latest addition to Sony's class-leading 1000X family of noise cancelling headphones, whose daddy is the WH1000XM3 , with the M3 signalling that they are the third version of Sony's over-ear flagship.

Amazingly good active noise cancelling (ANC; Top notch audio performance; Handy 'Quick attention' mode

Not for workout use; ANC more effective on the ground than on planes

Sony WF-1000XM3: True wireless with stellar noise-cancelling

The Sony WF-1000XM3 true wireless buds follow in the footsteps of their larger sibling, the WH-1000XM3 headphones. They are, quite simply, the best noise-cancelling earphones and headphones on the market.

Superb sound quality; Fantastic ANC performance for a set of in-ears; Stable wireless connection

Fit might not be suitable for all activities; Lacks a sweat or water-resistant rating; Large-sized charging cradle

Sony WF-1000XM3

When we first reviewed the original WF-1000X , we were so impressed we called them the "best wireless earphones in the world". That was at a time where true wireless earphones were still relatively new, and few had taken the "sound first" approach that dictated Sony's entrance into the market.

Great musical sound quality; Super noise cancellation; Snug; comfortable fit; Rock solid wireless connectivity; Great with all types of music

Adaptive Sound Control can intrude; No aptX
