Sony XB10 Portable Wireless Speaker Review

Sony has, once again, blown away the competition in both the size and price category. We've heard more expensive Bluetooth speakers that didn't sound as good, as well as bigger ones that didn't have as much power.

Sony SRS-XB10

The grenade-size SRS-XB10 is the smallest and most basic of the new speakers in Sony's line of Extra Bass Bluetooth speakers. At this size "extra bass" might be a stretch, but it does have a bit more punch than many competitors.

The Sony SRS-XB10 is an ultracompact, canister-style Bluetooth speaker that's water-resistant, with good battery life (16 hours) and speakerphone capabilities; The speaker sounds decent enough for its size and its strap converts into a stand to prop the speaker up horizontally

The soft-but-tough finish attracts some dust; should cost less than $50

Sony SRS-XB10 review: Sony's tiniest Bluetooth speaker ain't tinny

The grenade-size SRS-XB10 is the smallest and most basic of the new speakers in Sony's line of Extra Bass Bluetooth speakers. At this size "extra bass" might be a stretch, but it does have a bit more punch than many competitors.

While it should costs a little less, the Sony SRS-XB10 is an attractively designed mini wireless speaker that outputs more bass than your typical tiny speaker.

What would you get if you crossbreed a grenade with a stress ball You'll probably end up with the Sony XB-10 portable speaker, a bomblet of sound in a soft rubber skin. The Sony XB-10 is fully rubberised and very small, making it rugged and easy to grab.

Over the last few years, we've seen bluetooth speakers of all shapes and sizes. From diminutive pocket-sized units to those that can get a neighbourhood bloc party started. Sony's XB10 might veer towards the former in size but packs enough punch to suffice for a pool side gathering and might even...

Sony SRS-XB10: Small size, big sound

With the plethora of Bluetooth speakers available, it is impossible not to get confused as to which one is the best. Sure you can get the unbranded ones that go for less than 100 AED, or you can choose something a little that could give you more.

Water resistant; Great battery life; Decent sound output

Reviewing the Sony SRS-XB10 wasn't tough at all. We saw the unit at the launch event and were very surprised by its sound output calibre along with its other features. The speaker was compact, lightweight and could connect to multiple devices.

Compact & handy form factor; Lightweight; Good Audio output; Great battery life; Multiple connectivity options

May get shrill sometimes at loud output

Sony SRS-XB10

For $50, the Sony SRS-XB10 delivers a solid overall audio experience, with crisp highs and rich lows for its price and size. There's little to complain about, though the SRS-XB10 doesn't quite unseat our favorite compact $50 Bluetooth speaker, the aforementioned JBL Clip 2.

Affordable; Solid audio performance with rich bass response and crisp highs; Water-resistant design; Built-in speakerphone; Can be linked with another SRS-XB10 to form stereo pair

Can distort on tracks with deep bass; Mono

Sony SRS-XB10 Review

Despite advances in passive bass radiators and overall streaming quality, the number of high-quality, affordably priced Bluetooth speakers is pretty low. We can now add another product to the short list, however—the Sony SRS-XB10. At $49.99, the tiny, water-resistant SRS-XB10 delivers solid audio, with surprisingly rich bass response, for its size and price. The mono SRS-XB10 can also be linked with another unit to form a stereo pair. Is it the absolute best offering in this price range? No—that distinction still belongs to the JBL Clip 2—but the SRS-XB10 is a solid runner-up, and worth a look. Design The cylindrical SRS-XB10, available in black, blue, red, and white, measures roughly 3.5 by 2.9 inches (HW) and weighs in at 9.2 ounces. It's IPX5 rating means you can get it wet, but it's not a good idea to submerge the speaker underwater. With a rubberized body and base, the top panel is speaker grille only, with a single 1.8-inch driver firing upward. At the base, there are small ...

Sony's wireless, outdoor-friendly SRS-XB10 speaker delivers some surprising bass depth for its size and price.
