One year after its initial release, and to cap off two decades of PlayStation, the Sony PlayStation 4 finds itself in an esteemed position at the tail-end of 2014. The PS4 seems to be winning the new-generation console race against the Xbox One - at least, in terms of sales - and its growing library...

Fast user interface; powerful for producing graphical gaming marvels; holds masses of future potential; Remote Play via PS Vita is fun; strengthening games lineup

Still no media streaming; 500GB storage insufficient; Store download prices are often absurdly high

There's not much between the two, but if we had to pick a winner, we'd give it to the PS4. Not only does it edge the Xbox One on sheer graphical horsepower, it also has virtual reality support, and a better library of current and upcoming exclusive titles.

The like most new electronics, the PS4 does have some software issues right out of the box but it's nothing that cant be patched. The fact is the PS4 is a powerhouse that will eventually let us do things that would never think was possible as gamers.

The day I switched on my PS3 for the first time, I very quickly knew that my days of firing up the PS2 would be severely numbered. With the PS4, I'm not sure that's the case: I suspect I will be going back to the PS3.

I kinda jumped in early, having bought it within the first 3 months of launch. I wouldn't exactly call myself a fanboy given that I've had every console for the past 2 generations. But having had a Playstation Plus account and a Ps Vita, I felt like I had to have it.

PlayStation 4 graphics are amazing. New controller is much better to hold & control with the added feature of a light at the back which changes colour when playing games. The downside is the cost of the Internet, which was free on PS3.

Best console around lots of power built to last great games and more incoming more diverse exclusives than xbox which is mainly for shooter (yawn) ps4 is going from strength to strength 10/10

The PS4 console delivers on all counts for PlayStation gamers with superior hardware and a list of games that will grow over time. While it lacks some of the multimedia features of the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 can still hold its own as a family entertainment device.

Sony's shiny new console offers speedy gameplay options, but struggles as an all-round entertainment box. Just as with the Xbox One , there's a lot of interesting technology under the hood of the Playstation 4, but ultimately that matters very little indeed.
