Sony HXR-NX5U HD Camcorder Reviewed
The Sony HXR-NX5U is a true workhorse and one of the best camcorders in the AVCHD format. Professional event videographers will love the long record times and well thought out controls.
Pros:
- Good color balance
- One-fourth-stop manual iris
- 20x Sony G Lens
- Great optics
Cons:
- 29.5mm at the widest is good
- but you might need an adapter if you want a little more room
- Front shoe mount may put you at odds with the LCD's ability to flip out
- GPS might be a little too far ahead of its time

Sony NX5U
Great camera, plays well with our other Sony cameras. One problem, our 2 other cameras have 4 inch screens and the NX5 is only 3 inch, other than that it's great.

Good choice for the $
I use the NXCAM for shooting weddings and it works very well. I love the digital recording on SD cards! The camera has a pretty decent gain setting, although it can get pretty grainy. Over all, a good deal for the money.

- Complicated To Operate

Professional HD quality is affordable
I highly recommend the HXR-NX5U. It's beyond the needs of the average wedding videographer and should have a very long useful life. This is the camera that finally let me ditch tapes for good.
Pros:
- Where to start? The viewfinder and LCD are very high resolution
- The zoom, focus, and iris rings are smooth and feel perfect
- Unlike professional cameras, this model has a consumer HDMI output, AND unlike low-cost cameras, it also has the professional HDSDI output.
Cons:
- The optional 128 GB FMU128 flash unit is expensive, so I just bought a bunch of SDHC cards
- The onboard and included microphones are good enough for interviews, but thankfully there are two professional XLR ports for attaching a better mic for event photography or for connecting to the house audio...

Awesome camera!
This SONY HXR-NX5U is excellent for event Video & Wedding Video. This gives you full freedom to manual option to get the best video out of it the way you want. External flash memory drive is bonus and you can have backup on all the time when you shoot important events.

Great "run and gun" camera
Just shot a series of travel documentaries down in Key West Florida with it. It is a GREAT "run and gun" camera and could be as easy or as complicated to use as you need it to be. Very satisfied.

- Great Picture Quality
- Great Sound
- Large Clear LCD
- Zoom range/performance
Cons:
- AVCHD can be tricky

Excellent product.
I love the quality of the video, the external manual settings on the side of the camera, and the 128 GB external flash drive which holds 11 hours of video.

Incredible camera for sports and action
Great for capturing action sports (football, lacrosse, baseball, etc...). I'm very happy with this camera. I recently filmed a HS football game that was being covered by FIOS1 and there were 2 other NX5Us right alongside of me. Works well with FCPX

Now I am a proud owner of Sony HXR-NX5U
Its a Great Camera, I have ever used. I will strongly recommend to others. The recording on consumer memory cards is great. More than eleven hours of recording on optional flash drive is a bonus.
