Failed after 2 months

Yes a good camera as far as picture quality etc. is concerned BUT the hard drive has become disconnected after only two months, (apparently a common problem) losing a lot of valuable work and now no-one at Sony can tell me if the camera is eligible for warranty, having been bought in Hong Kong.

just bought one and the colour is vibrant and outstanding. Could be a bit better under low light, but kills the jvc models. I know because i sell cameras

Great if you don't want to record for over 20 minutes!

When I first got this camera, I loved it! After about a year and a half, however, I have a BIG issue. After about 20 minutes of use (starting and stopping recording), the autofocus quits working. Example, I can record the first period of my son's hockey game.

Sony HDR-SR8E Camcorder

Sony has been leading the pack in the rapidly growing high-definition camcorder market, particularly in Europe. The company was the first to bring HDV to the UK, the first to bring HDV down to the £1,000 price point, and the first to launch products using the MPEG-4-based AVCHD format.

Sony HDR-SR8E review

The Sony HDR-SR8E is a well built camcorder, with very high built-in storage capacity, that produces high-ish resolution stills - but it is pricey.

Sony HDR-SR8 review

Having spearheaded the high-definition video revolution with HDV, Sony is again pushing the technological frontier with its support for AVCHD, the format that uses a very efficient MPEG4 compression system to cram huge amounts of high-quality pictures and sounds into very small spaces.

Great handling and ergonomics; Lots of good features and connectivity; HD clips are excellent in good light

Manual control can be fiddly; Mic suffers from wind noise; CMOS creates lower light issues; Expensive

For a HD cam i think this is one of the best, been using it for 2 years now and never once has it dissapointed me, when i got it though it said 5-10 hour barrety life, but that requires that you upgrade your battery the standard one is not that great, maybe you'll get 3hours out of it depending on...

HD, 5.1 surround Sound..; easy to use menu
