Three Years of experience with this lens.

I know this is not a perfect lens. It was never designed to be perfect or even excellent. But, it is my go-to lens. I keep coming back to it. If you have realistic expectations, this is a good everyday lens. Very useful zoom range. I tend to use it as a 18 to 48mm lens to avoid the extremes.

poor quality but compact

Got this as my first zoom lens for my sony camera. I only have prime lenses and I needed a zoom lens. Went on vacation in orlando and just took a ton of pictures at my son graduation. Compared to the prime lenses the quality on this one is pretty much disappointing and horrible. Lens is clean.

Got 2 versions 1 silver 1 black SELP1650

I tried both lens on both the NEX-5N and my NEX-5R and it works, but the quality control will be an issue, the silver one was not as sharp nor is the OSS working properly with either camera.
Pros:
  • Compact
  • auto zoom
Cons:
  • 40.5mm filter size (not normal Sony filter size)
  • no hood
  • quality control issue

New Sony E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens review

This lens is an AMAZING pancake lens on NEX. The size always brings imaging compromise, but the cameras (once getting upgraded firmware) do a great job fixing the JPEGs. This lens hits another level of performance with A6000's advanced autofocus. It again needs firmware update, for older lenses.
Pros:
  • Pancake-ish when closed, better than 18-55 kit (with correction), fast focus with some cameras
Cons:
  • Takes a little time to &#x27
  • fold out&#x27
  • at startup, corrections are important @ 16mm
