Sony 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ OSS lens

Most people will acquire this lens with one of Sony's E-mount cameras and, as a kit lens it covers a useful range of focal lengths and performs reasonably well. The power zoom and image stabilisation are handy for video shooting and the AF motor is quiet enough to produce minimal interference in...

REVIEW: Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens Review

Handling and features A common complaint with Sony's NEX camera system is the size lenses need to be due to the large APS-C sized imaging sensor. This new E16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS lens may be the answer to that issue.

OK kit lens

This lens came with my A6000 mirroless, my first experience with such a camera. Normally I lug around my Nikon D7000 with an 18-300 mm zoom. Took this camera and lens on a vacation to northern Italy. Still learning the camera, so results could be my inexperience. Overall an OK lens.

Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ OSS SELP1650 review by Beachrider

This lens is an AMAZING pancake lens on NEX. The size always brings imaging compromise, but the cameras (once getting upgraded firmware) do a great job fixing the JPEGs. This lens hits another level of performance with A6000's advanced autofocus. It again needs firmware update, for older lenses.
Pros:
  • Pancake-ish when closed
  • better than 18-55 kit (with correction)
  • fast focus with some cameras
Cons:
  • Takes a little time to 'fold out' at startup
  • corrections are important @ 16mm

It pay to look, before you over pay somewhere else, thanks to E-bay!

I bought the Sony a5100 body no lens. I wanted a compact zoom lens just so happen on was for sell used but never used. I took the camera on vacation to Vegas. the lens performed great in low light and bright light, very sharp clean prints I saved about 200 getting it from E-bay

Best e mount lens in this price

I was looking for an e mount lens. This is the best one that you could buy on this price. Not excellent, but good and acceptable quality in low light.

Surprisingly sharp, very light

The reviews that go on about this being soft are really nit picking. I have so far found this to be very sharp. It also focuses really quite close up, much closer that I was expecting. Not macro, but perfectly good enough for flower close ups. The best feature is the variable zoom speed.

Great compact lens, but quality varies.

I got this lens with my Sony NEX 6 as a kit lens. As such, I did not pay over £240 for it. I knew that this lens has been designed for smallest size possible, and as such I did expect the quality to be compromised in favor of size. Despite that, I wan't initially too happy with it.

Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ OSS SELP1650

At the end of the day for me it comes down to image quality or output from the camera/lens combo. There is no easy way to say this but Sony is ripping people off with this lens and I find it very discouraging that a company such as this has the gaul to create outstanding camera bodies and then puts...
Pros:
  • Light
  • almost userful macro
  • neat finish
  • very good OSS
Cons:
  • Image quality
