Ever since the introduction of its NEX system, Sony has been spoiling its users with diminutively sized cameras that, on their own, put many a Micro Four Thirds offering to shame in terms of sheer dimensions.

Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 PZ OSS SELP1650 review by Beachrider
This lens is an AMAZING pancake lens on NEX. The size always brings imaging compromise, but the cameras (once getting upgraded firmware) do a great job fixing the JPEGs. This lens hits another level of performance with A6000's advanced autofocus. It again needs firmware update, for older lenses.
Pros:
- Pancake-ish when closed
- better than 18-55 kit (with correction)
- fast focus with some cameras
Cons:
- Takes a little time to 'fold out' at startup
- corrections are important @ 16mm

Measuring just 3/16" (29.9mm) when fully retracted, this SELP-1650 retractable zoom lens is super compact and easy to carry so you can quickly whip out your camera and spontaneously grab shots as they occur.

The Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS PZ is a pancake zoom lens for the Sony NEX system (E-mount). It is an extremely small lens especially considering its highly interesting focal length range. That said, this is only part of the story. The lens is only small in "transport mode".

Surprisingly sharp, very light
The reviews that go on about this being soft are really nit picking. I have so far found this to be very sharp. It also focuses really quite close up, much closer that I was expecting. Not macro, but perfectly good enough for flower close ups. The best feature is the variable zoom speed.

Fabulous! My original lens dropped and was stuck in zoom mode, so I had to find a reasonably priced replacement that wouldn't break the bank. This did the job! I ordered a few days before leaving on a trip and it arrived safely and on-time. Everything is still working perfectly.

great as long as image quality is not the aim of the game
Bought because i needed a zoom lens but didn't want to compromise the size of the Sony 5n camera. Unfortunately in not compromising the size i think i've compromised the image quality, the lens isn't great, but then i am extremely picky (the 10-18mm is awesome, i use canon L series lens as my main...

There is no easy way to say this but Sony is ripping people off with this lens and I find it very discouraging that a company such as this has the gaul to create outstanding camera bodies and then puts...
