Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens Review
Handling and features Performance Verdict Specification A common complaint with Sony's NEX camera system is the size lenses need to be due to the large APS-C sized imaging sensor. This new E16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS lens may be the answer to that issue.
Pros:
- Good build quality
- Compact when collapsed
- Lightweight
- Effective optical stabilisation
- Well priced
Cons:
- Collapsible design adds a delay between switching on the camera and being able to taken an image
- Loss of contrast when shooting into the light

Got 2 versions 1 silver 1 black SELP1650
I tried both lens on both the NEX-5N and my NEX-5R and it works, but the quality control will be an issue, the silver one was not as sharp nor is the OSS working properly with either camera.
Pros:
- Compact
- auto zoom
Cons:
- 40.5mm filter size (not normal Sony filter size)
- no hood
- quality control issue

Ever since the introduction of its NEX system, Sony has been spoiling its users with diminutively sized cameras that, on their own, put many a Micro Four Thirds offering to shame in terms of sheer dimensions.

Non-compatable NEX lens
The lens is NOT compatible with my NEX-5D. There is no software update for this camera therefore the resulting pictures are distorted and have dark corners when in wide angle. I actually bought the lens to make my NEX-5 a pocket camera.

Nice size, but strange to use
personally i got this to replace the 18-55mm kit lens which came with my 5N, but i quickly switched backreasons why its good: -small size-similar image quality-still maintains OSSreasons why i did NOT like it: -the zoom ring direction is REVERSED!!
Pros:
- Similar Image Quality
- Small and light
- Wider By 2mm
Cons:
- Zoom Is Too Sensitive
- Zoom Ring Is Reversed

Sony SELP1650 16-50mm Power Zoom Lens Sony
very pleased with the small footprint it gives my NEX 5n, range is good and quality is sharp. No compatibility problems as reported with the NEX 5n. Updatdated the firmware after checking with Sony

The Sony E 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS PZ is a pancake zoom lens for the Sony NEX system (E-mount). It is an extremely small lens especially considering its highly interesting focal length range. That said, this is only part of the story. The lens is only small in "transport mode".

Thought Sony made a magic by launching this lens with Nex6. I am very wrong. There is no free lunch in the world after all

great as long as image quality is not the aim of the game
Bought because i needed a zoom lens but didn't want to compromise the size of the Sony 5n camera. Unfortunately in not compromising the size i think i've compromised the image quality, the lens isn't great, but then i am extremely picky (the 10-18mm is awesome, i use canon L series lens as my main...

Sony 16-50mm Retractable Zoom Lens
The Sony 16-50mm Retractable Zoom Lens is the smallest zoom that you can get for your NEX camera, but it's far from the best.
Pros:
- Extremely compact
- Power zoom control
Cons:
- Images on the soft side
- Heavy distortion at 16mm.
