don't waste your time!

Hello everyone, it is all my fault for buying cheep, this lens has a Red outline on the subjects, it gives a sheep look to the picture, this could work for some people if that is the look you are after.

Budget build but good optics

Recently the price dropped a bit on this lens, so I picked one up with a gift voucher I had from Sony directly. I've used all the 3 "budget primes" from Sony in the past, on balance this is probably the most appealing of the 3 lenses (35/50/85mm) for APS-C users.

good lens at this price range

If you are on a tight budget, then this is a good lens for you. Low light photos are good. Nice bokeh. The only flip side is the delicate construction of the lens. Drop it once and be ready to but a new one, But considering it's price that's manageable.

Consistent Output; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Nice Bokeh

Weak Casing

Great lens for the price

I purchased this lens as it was good value for money and it was a good introduction to portrait photography, I have only had it for about a month and I am very pleased with the results.

Excellent Lens

Probably one of the best bang-for-your-buck lenses out there. Its an incredibly versatile prime lens that takes very sharp images with the nice bokeh that everyone is looking for these days. This lens should be the first lens you buy after advancing from the kit lens that came with your camera.

Sony 50mm f/1.8 DT SAM SAL-50F18

The Sony 50mm f1.8 DT is a pretty good lens working effectively as a 75mm on APS-C cameras. If you have such a camera and have no ambition to move to full frame then it will serve you well.

Light; modern coatings; inexpensive; reasonably fast

Plastic construction; APS-C only

Sony 50mm f/1.8 DT ( SAL-50F18 ) - Lab Test / Review

The build quality of the lens is average at best. The lens barrel is completely made of plastic and that's including the lens mount. It uses a linear extension system for focusing - the, slightly wobbly, inner lens tube extends slightly during the process.

A good buy... BUT...

I bought this lens because I really wanted a portrait lens with a wide aperture, and I was very excited to get it. But upon buying it, I've noticed that pictures I've taken where my subject is in direct sunlight or is backlit, are subjected to EXTREME color fringing.
