REVIEW: Sony DT 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6

Sony's DT 16-105mm f/4.5-5.6 is a general 'walk about' lens that costs around £480 and covers popular focal lengths equivalent to a 24-157.4mm lens on a full-frame camera. Lenses like this tend to be a popular upgrade for those looking for a little more than their typical 18-55mm kit lens offers in...

Useful zoom range; Good build quality; Good centre resolution at the shorter end of the zoom range

Resolution towards edges of the frame from 50mm onwards; Barrel distortion at 16mm; Prone to flare

Sony 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6 DT SAL-16105 review by hhrhd

I use this lens now nearly for two years. Aprox. 15.000 shots later I am still amazed how good this lens is. The sharpness is only surpassed by some SONY fixed lenses I tried (e.g. the excellent 35mm SAM 1,8).

The BEST "walk-around" zoom lens for the APS-C size sensor:

I have the 18-200, 18-250 and the 18-270 and 3 other old smaller zooms... At first, I missed the 18-270's reach, but once I got acquainted with 16 end of the lens, I realized what I was missing... I was walking closer to my subjects.

Very satisfied

The lens is perfect. If it was used it was very little, no ware at all not even on the mounting ring. Fast delivery and packed well. Would definitely order from Peacock Camera again.

Great walk around lens

This lens is a good for just about any situation. I used to use the 18-250mm as my walk around lens but since getting this one I've found that for most situations I like this one more. Having the 16mm option is sometimes just enough to keep me from having to reach into my bag for my UWA.

Great Lens For All Levels of Experience

First off this is a great little lens. Inside the box comes the lens, front and rear element caps, manuals, & Sony 1 year limited warranty card. The lens has a filter diameter of 62, so you can attach UV, polarizer etc. filters to the lens.

Easy To Use; Great Quality

very nice lens

I'm just getting used to this lens. I mount it on the sony a65. Previously I've had the 16-50 fixed f-stop. (which I Love) on my a65. The 16-105 is a fast focus and very sharp. It increases the range, and is a well-built lens. I will use it for landscape and possibly portraits.
