We bought this camera to replace our older one Sony Powershot G-12 (which we lost). And to our surprise I loved it from the time I took into my hands. This is just simply one great pocketable camera that will out-run most of the bigger competitors in the yard.

90% of a dslr

Haven't had a point and shoot for a good 5 years at least. I've had a Nikon d90 since its release and day to day pictures have been shot with our iPhones. The problem with iPhones is the small sensor, lack of zoom and not very good light sensitivity.

Best camera I've ever bought, and I'm a professional photographer with quite a few SLR's. It's expensive, but I've never regretted buying it. I've taken some stupidly good photos with this camera!

My Go To Camera

Best camera i have owned. I have had the likes of Canon G10, Pentax SLR and many others. This camera is the go to for me. Amazing picture quality and everything you will ever need to capture a still or moving object. Amazing features. Great value.
Pros:
  • Picture and Build Quality
Cons:
  • None

I thoroughly recommend the RX100 as a pocketable stand-in for a professional DSLR for situations where you can't use the DSLR (not practical/socially acceptable/safe to carry a big camera) For someone just starting up, who doesn't have a DSLR - there are lots of good entry-level DSLR's which are...
Pros:
  • The RX100 is genuinely pocketable
  • It stays in my day bag all the time, except when I put it in the pocket of my trousers, The image quality is excellent, at least as good as my Nikon D300.
Cons:
  • I do not like LCD viewfinders
  • I accept them only as the price to pay to make a camera so small
  • The RX100 has the usual problems, 1
  • The image is too small to see what you are doing
  • If I'm taking a group, I can't judge the best moment to do the picture because I can't see their expressions, 2.

Glad I bought it.

Fantastic camera. A little overwhelming with all the settings at first and frustrating that all the programs and instruction manuals have to be downloaded. What's wrong with putting a CD in the box Sony.

Digital SLR substitute that can be pocketable

I noticed some of the small pocketable cameras could take very good photos comparable to those taken with semi decent digital SLR camera. Especially the ones taken during bright daylights turn out very impressive photos.
Pros:
  • Great photos in a small package
Cons:
  • Too much blue tint if white balance is not chosen correctly

Sometimes DSLR's are overkill

This camera already has enough reviews about the specs and performance. I'll leave that out, but I'll share my experience of it as a casual photographer. As I get more exposure into photography, I start to learn about many photographs elements.
Pros:
  • Easy To Use
  • Fast/accurate auto-focus
  • Good Image Quality
  • Good Image Stabilization
  • Good in Low Light
  • Small / Compact
Cons:
  • Limited Zoom
  • No Viewfinder
  • Poor Flash

This camera is perfect for carrying it with you wherever you go. It's more compact than my digital SLR but with many comparable features. There is even a feature where when taking a picture, it determines people in the shot and generates a second picture with closer up shots.
