An EVF, 16fps shooting and 40x slow motion are desirable features, but we'd have liked a touchscreen to speed up focusing, so it's four stars for Features & Build.

It has all of the full manual control features that intermediate and advanced photographers crave, while also remaining easy enough to use that a beginner could pick it up and begin shooting great photos immediately.

First off this is a superb camera I cannot think of another camera of this size with all the features it has. I will say that if you are not interested in 4K video then save yourself some money and buy the mark 3 version.

As you can see from this review, the Sony RX100 IV is a little powerhouse that is not only capable of delivering outstanding image quality for its sensor size, but also superb 4K and slow motion video.

Sony's long had a long-zoom camera for the SLR-style enthusiast, the RX10 IV, but its advanced compact line has had a less-than-3x zoom lens since the RX100 II appeared in 2014. With the RX100 VI, Sony ups that lens to an 8x, 24-200mm-equivalent with a reasonably fast aperture range of f2.8-4.5, making it more flexible travel and everyday camera. It also adds a Hybrid Log Gamma Picture Profile to enable HDR-compatible 4K UHD capture.

The update to the RX100 series adds a Hybrid log gamma profile for HDR capture and extends the lens from 24-70mm to 24-200mm for more general-purpose flexibility.

We're willing to blame some of the problems that we saw with the pre-production units on them not being finalized. But there generally still are some issues that we think that Sony could have addresses and revamped with this camera.

The RX100 VI is something of a departure for the RX100 series: offering a more extensive zoom range but giving up some of its large sensor's low light ability by pairing it with a less bright lens.

The RX100 VI is a very capable camera, combining a flexible zoom range with impressive autofocus. However, the small maximum aperture required to keep the size down limits the image quality in some situations. The relatively high price means you have to really want its unequaled combination of capability and size.
