Sony Cyber-Shot RX100 Camera - Mark 2 RX100II review

After the success of the genuinely pocketable Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 , Sony has added a second mode with a slightly revised specification to run alongside. It adds a number of refinements including a new 20- Mpix Exmor-R (back-illuminated) 1-inch type CMOS sensor, a hotshoe with provision for an...

Hot shoe advantage

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Digital Camera has something on it that the I, III, IV, V, and VI do not have, a flash hot shoe. So, what's the big deal with the hot shot I will tell you, in the real world interior flash shots with a pop up flash just do not make it for me.

WORTHLESS WARRANTY - BEWARE

Camera stopped working after 8 months and sent in for warranty repair. Sony claims it was damaged and voided the warranty. As an avid amateur photographer I have had no problems with previous cameras and say this is baloney. The best Sony will do is replace it for $279 (they say that's generous).

Nothing pro if they won't stand behind their product

Great camera, great value package

This is a great little camera, the only con is that the auto focus is a bit on the slow side in low light conditions (especially when using the flash). Pictures are amazing though, even in lower light. Video is great too. Best of all, this is a pocketable camera, which was important to me.

Easy To Use; Good Image Quality; Good in Low Light; Large Clear LCD; Small / Compact

Review: Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100 II

Sony broke away from the conventional 1/2.3" sensors to make way for a 1" sensor with its RX100 and earned rave reviews for its high-end point and shoot camera. That snapper came in packed with goodies to the brim, along with DSLR-like image quality, but in a compact form factor.

Handles low light shots well; 1" sensor gives low-noise shots at ISO 3200; Pocketable; Incredible amount of DoF at f1/1.8; Wi-Fi/NFC compliant

Optical zoom limited to 3.6x; Heavy; Steep learning curve; Expensive

Sony DSC-RX100 II Review

The Sony DSC-RX100 II is an updated version of the RX100, which in our opinion brings mostly surface level upgrades to the camera. The sensor and the lens remain the same as the predecessor, which is bound to generate mixed feelings, however, all is not lost.

Large 1-inch sensor allows high ISO shooting without much noise; Fast f/1.8 aperture at 28mm end; Extremely fast AF; Incredibly sturdy and compact

No quick access to all settings; Telephoto aperture of f/4.9 is slow

Sony DSC-RX100 II Review

The compact advanced point and shoot (PnS) camera category is a space that is heating up, considering every major camera manufacturer – Sony, Olympus, Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Fujifilm – has at least one of these in their kitty.

It's hard to review the RX100 II without calling out its predecessor/sibling model, and seeing as they're being sold simultaneously (at least for now) it may even be appropriate to offer some direct comparisons.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 II Review

The RX100 II performs much the same as its RX100 predecessor, turning out some of the best image quality we've seen from a compact camera. With the addition of Wi-Fi connectivity and a BSI sensor, it's at the top of its class in terms of performance and features. With a few caveats regarding the shooting experience, it's a clear class-leader.
