Sony A9
Though we as an organization avoid reporting on rumors and speculation of future camera products, we can't help but get just as excited as the next person speculating about upcoming new gear! One of the most hyped and most rumored cameras in recent years has been the Sony A9.
Pros:
- New sensor offers incredible performance
- Excellent image quality at low & high ISOs
- Very good dynamic range
- Phenomenal 20fps burst speed & deep buffer
- Very good battery life for a mirrorless
- 4K video
- Dual card slots
Cons:
- Slow buffer clearing
- Only one UHS-II card slot
- Touchscreen underutilized
- No lossless RAW compression option
- No 4K/60p option

Sony Alpha 9 – an astonishing mirrorless model
The Sony Alpha 9 (or A9 for short) is a high-speed full-frame mirrorless camera that's designed to go head to head with Canon and Nikon's flagship professional DSLRs. It's capable of shooting 24MP images at 20 frames per second while keeping focus on moving subjects, and costs £4500.
Pros:
- Excellent handling and controls
- Superb autofocus tracking
- High-speed shooting with minimal distortion
- Excellent electronic viewfinder with zero blackout
- Impressive battery life
Cons:
- AF area not highlighted in viewfinder when moved via the joystick
- Touchscreen woefully under-used

High-end and industry leading with the AF. Expensive but not more expensive than the competition
I own and use the Sony A9 (ILCE-9/B) since August 2017 and had sufficient time for testing, with landscape, nature and street photography. I mostly used the Zeiss Batis 85mm. In summary, I can say that this is a really strong camera, and it better be at with this price! Is the camera perfect - No!

Sony Alpha A9 review
The Sony Alpha A9 is a phenomenal camera. It's not without its faults – we'll be interested to see how the weather-sealing holds up when it's properly exposed to the elements for starters, while the absence of XQD card slots and very limited touchscreen control is disappointing.
Pros:
- Blistering performance
- Incredibly fast and capable AF
- No viewfinder blackout
- Impressive level of customization
- Excellent results from 24MP sensor
- High-res viewfinder
- Oversampled 4K footage
Cons:
- Weather sealing not as robust as rivals
- No XQD card slots
- Balance not great with long lenses
- Very limited touchscreen control
- Battery life not a match for rivals

Almost Perfect.
My first impressions with a Sony a9 after using for 6 months while in transition from another professional camera outfitter. General. 1. Two SD card slots; a fast one in slot 1 and a slow in 2; both should have been the same. 2. No USB 3 3.

Sony A9 review
Quite simply, the Sony A9 is quite probably the best camera on the market today across all types and categories.
Pros:
- 20fps silent shooting
- Full-frame sensor
- Flip-up screen
Cons:
- Small body can feel unbalanced with larger lenses
- Expensive
- Relatively short battery life

Sony A9 review: Offers sharp images even in poor light
Every camera you buy will have some sort of ceiling on what you can do with it. On low-end cameras, this ceiling becomes apparent pretty early – limitations in terms of frame-rate, autofocus points and body controls all make themselves felt, and can cost you shots.
Pros:
- Great video quality
- Fast and flexible
- Easy to master
Cons:
- Expensive
- Battery life could be better

Sony Alpha a9 (no lens included)
It's one bad hombre! I'm still learning to use it. So far I'm very happy with it. It's very customizable. The next day air shipping from Crutchfield was a nice bonus.

What more to say This camera and lens combination takes glorious photos, and helps you take them easily. My, what a great camera and lens.
