The best camera that Sony has ever made. This one goes toe to toe with Canon or Nikon’s finest.

Sony A7R Mark III A Body Only - Brand New review

Quite simply, the Sony A7R III is a ludicrously brilliant camera, and one of the very best on the market.

Phenomenal image quality in almost any situation, Extremely fast and responsive, Compact, lightweight design with well-placed controls, Superb electronic viewfinder, In-body image stabilisation gives sharper images with any lens

AF area is invisible when moved using the joystick, Rear screen only tilts up or down, Handgrip too close to the lens for shooting with gloves

Sony A7R Mark III A Body Only - Brand New review

The Sony Alpha A7R III is not only the most well-rounded mirrorless camera you can buy today, but one of the best cameras out there right now.

10fps at 42.2MP, Advanced 5-axis IS system, Large and bright EVF, Fast AF performance, Improved handling

Battery life could still be better, Limited touchscreen control, Only one SD slot supports UHS-II cards

The A7R III is the most well-balanced Sony camera to date, offering a compelling mix of resolution, speed and size that also makes it one of the best cameras that we've ever reviewed, be that mirrorless or DSLR.

Sony hits the prosumer sweet spot with its latest full-frame camera

Fast burst mode and autofocus, Superb all-round video and still quality, Lengthy battery life

Large body by CSC standards, Screen tilts but doesn’t flip

Sony A7R Mark III A Body Only - Brand New review

While it has the same pixel count as its predecessor, the 42.4Mp Sony Alpha A7R III makes some major enhancements on the camera it replaces. As well as improve handling, there’s faster shooting, more decisive focusing and better image quality. Consequently, the Sony A7R III is a phenomenal camera.

High-quality full-frame 42Mp sensor, 10fps continuous shooting, Silent shutter possible at 10fps

Limited use made of the touch-screen, Complex menu that could still be better arranged, Only one SD slot is UHS-II compliant

Sony A7R Mark III A Body Only - Brand New review

While it's a shame that picture and sound quality haven't been upgraded, the iPhone 13 was great in these regards and the iPhone 14 is, too Excellent display Admirable headphone performance Solid build quality No upgrades to picture or sound Familiar design Notch is still present

Sony A7R Mark III A Body Only - Brand New review

It's fair to say that the Sony a7R III is a great option for an incredibly wide variety of photographers. Offering great image quality, fast burst shooting speeds, high quality 4K video and a reasonably compact package, it's an incredibly well-rounded offering.

Hybrid stills and video shooters, photographers looking for a versatile tool for a wide range of subjects in a compact package.

Those that need the absolute best in autofocus tracking, those that require even faster burst speeds.

Sony A7R Mark III A Body Only - Brand New review

Sony's Alpha A7r Mark III is a highly capable camera that's equally at home shooting high resolution stills as it is handling fast action or filming quality video. The 42 Megapixel full-frame sensor may be inherited from the Mark II but Sony's improved the processing to deliver superb quality.

The α7R III was recently announced as the winner of this year’s Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) award for the Best Professional High Resolution Mirrorless camera so it should be no surprise that we’ve nominated it for an Editor’s Choice award.
