With big improvements to battery life and performance, Sony's A7R Mark III is a worthy successor.

I'm reviewing the a7R III from the perspective of a bird and wildlife shooter. I do lots of shooting of moving animals at predawn and after sunset, so dynamic range is a huge plus. Since I'm shooting feathers and fur, resolution is a high priority.

The Sony Alpha A7r Mark III is a highly versatile full-frame camera that can record detailed 42 Megapixel photos, film high quality 4k video, and handle itself respectably for sports with decent autofocus and 10fps bursts.

The A7R III is so good, so powerful and so versatile. Its troubling body-lens size mismatch, and 530/650-shot battery life, which is good for mirrorless but poor next to a pro DSLR, means it just loses half a star from an otherwise perfect score.

There are a variety of new things under the Sony A7R III's hood, including the ability to shoot 10 frames per second (fps) continuous bursts of images at full resolution, 4K video recording across the width of its full-frame sensor, longer battery life, and a host of other features.

After finishing the Sony a9 review, I stated "As I go back to my Sony a7R II to continue work on the Sony lens reviews , I'm left feeling in want." I was still happy with the s7R II's resolution and dynamic range, but I definitely wanted some of the a9's new and improved features.

A great camera with a few flaws that has really taken it up to the big boys in the top end full-frame DSLR market. Has every right to be considered a major contender by anybody looking to move into high end hardware. Will convert some pro photographers to mirrorless full-frame but I suspect not all.

The Sony Alpha A7R III is easily one of the best cameras you can buy at the moment. I think we are slowly coming to a point where professional cameras don't need to be traditional full frame DSLRs. The time of the mirrorless camera has truly come and the Sony Alpha A7R III is the proof.

I upgraded from the A7Rii and wasn't sure it would be worth it at first. I'm really glad I did!!! First, the auto focus on this camera is so fast. Finally there is a high quality full frame mirrorless camera that can focus like a top end DSLR. Second, they improved the battery!!!
