Sigma 28mm F1.4 DG HSM Art Review

The Sigma 28mm F1.4 DG HSM Art has the f/1.4 aperture photographers want and captures sharp, lifelike images, but it isn't as strong a value as some other lenses in the Art series. Sigma's series of Art lenses has been popular for photographers looking for high-quality glass at a reasonable price since its introduction. While many entries sell for under $1,000, Sigma is billing its 28mm F1.4 DG HSM Art ($1,399) as a higher-end model in the series, with a price to match. It backs it up with quality, both in terms of construction and optics, but doesn't quite have the mass-market appeal of the $849 24mm F1.4 DG HSM Art, our Editors' Choice. Filling in the Gaps Almost every full-frame camera system includes at least one 28mm prime in its library, but surprisingly only Nikon has an f/1.4 version, the AF-S Nikkor 28mm f/1.4E ED, in its library. Canon offers two aging options, an f/1.8 and f/2.8, for its SLR system, and Sony only has the FE 28mm F2 for its mirrorless line. The 28mm F1.4 DG HSM Art is sold in multiple editions, so you can pair it with a camera that uses a Canon EF, Nikon F, Leica L, Sigma SA, or Sony E mount. Versions for SLR systems measure 4....
Pros:
  • Excellent sharpness
  • Bright f/1.4 design
  • Minimal distortion
  • Breathing optimized for video
  • Weather protection and fluorine coat
  • Available for multiple systems
Cons:
  • Visible vignette at wide aperture
  • Pricier than some other Sigma Art lenses

Sigma 28mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens for (Nikon) - Brand New review

The launch of the Sigma A 28 mm f/1.4 DG HSM was an interesting even, concerning a very demanding segment with fierce competition. First of all, the Sigma has serious rivals among its own Art line, like very well made A 1.4/24 and 1.4/35 models.
Pros:
  • solid and stylish casing,, sensational image quality in frame centre,, very good image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,, good image quality on the edge of full frame,, lack of problems with longitudinal chromatic aberration,, slight lateral chromatic aberration,, imperceptible distortion,...
Cons:
  • very high vignetting at the maximum relative aperture on full frame,, performance against bright light leaves a bit to be desired.
