Just purchased the 150-500mm Sigma for my wife's Nikon. I felt compelled to test it against the 3 similar lenses we have. Here are the results, in order of image quality: At 300mm, f8: Sigma 150-500 Nikkor 300 f/4 Nikkor 70-300 vr Nikkor 55-300 vr The 300 f/4 and the Sigma were very close.

This is a great value for a long lens!! BUT!!!!!! The price you pay does not include Sigmas' approval for what you may think is a defect. We have all heard of the term "creeping"... referring to a lens that is set at a distance... then drifts...

This lens is by far better than expected. Ive read reviews where they said it was soft on the edges wide open. I havent found this to be true. This lens is built like a tank. I know its not a Nikon lens but I think its just as good.

The lense produces almost actual color, fast and accurate AF and more importantly for the focal length is useful OS. The lense's sweet spot is at F8. I have taken birth and animal photos and I am delighted with the result. To view some of fabulous shots, please click the link below.

Focal length; build quality; and image quality for price

f/6,3 at 500mm is limiting; Vignetting might be a problem in some photos

This lens is pretty sharp out to about 400mm. At 500 its acceptable only. If you are trying to shoot wildlife and birds it works well but it certainly cannot compete with the better Nikon long lenses but then again it is only about $900.00 and the good Nikons can run 4 to 5 grand.
