Value for Money

There are numerous reviews of this lens in the web, but here's my experience with this Sigma lens. Pros: 1. Range (150 - 500) there's nothing in the Nikon lens line up currently that can beat this. Nikon's offering 200 - 400 f4 is too costly for most of the enthusiasts. 2. The OS is very effective.

This lens is great for sporting events

I use this for my childrens' sporting activities (swimming, water polo, baseball, golf). Last weekend I tried it out at a water polo tournament and was very pleased with the results. I also have a Canon L 70-200 lens that I really like, but it just doesn't reach far enough.
Pros:
  • Consistent Output
  • Durable
  • Easily Interchangeable
  • Fast / accurate auto-focus
  • Rugged
  • Strong Construction
Cons:
  • Heavy

Not fully examined all the pictures taken with it, but on first viewing they look pretty good. Despite the weight (and a bad shoulder) I managed to shoot with it hand held when there was plenty of light

Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO review by Suntoro Tjoe

The lense produces almost actual color, fast and accurate AF and more importantly for the focal length is useful OS. The lense's sweet spot is at F8. I have taken birth and animal photos and I am delighted with the result. To view some of fabulous shots, please click the link below.
Pros:
  • Very good color
  • fast and accurate AF and very useful OS
Cons:
  • Filter size

Just purchased the 150-500mm Sigma for my wife's Nikon. I felt compelled to test it against the 3 similar lenses we have. Here are the results, in order of image quality: At 300mm, f8: Sigma 150-500 Nikkor 300 f/4 Nikkor 70-300 vr Nikkor 55-300 vr The 300 f/4 and the Sigma were very close.
Pros:
  • My tests show better than the Nikon 55-300 vr
  • 70-300 vr
  • 300 f4 (with and without a 1.4x TC
Cons:
  • None yet

Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3

My caution is that most people trying to shoot things at long distances underestimate the importance of getting closer.

Sigma 150-500mm f5-6.3 DG OS HSM

The Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM is a stabilized super-telephoto zoom lens; indeed it's one of only two stabilized telephoto zoom lenses reaching 500mm focal length, the other being Sigma's own 50-500mm 4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM.
