Shure has been killing it for years with their line of professional in-ear monitors. In 2010, it turned its attention to full-sized headphones. Does the SRH-940, their latest and greatest closed-back model, earn its keep

Still getting used to their revealing nature. Have heard new things on familiar recordings. Adds to the realism.

Shure SRH940

These phones will not withstand any rough treatment whatsoever. They break just above the swivel. If you have these phones and they have not broken yet, reinforce the band just above the swivel with electrical tape and treat them with extreme caution.

Sound beautiful

Break very easily

Great Mixing Headphones, but now experiencing crac

When I got these headphones I was so happy, especially at the price I was getting them for, but when I was buying these from Hi End Surplus, I was nervous, but I got them to my house, a tad late, but I got them!

Shure SRH 940

- I am quite happy with my purchase -- especially at the price I paid. At $300 I think it would still be a good deal. The SRH940 is a quite different headphone from my previous cans, but is an improvement in almost every way.

Generally good on top quality recordings

Slightly relaxed in the low register and harsh at times

Shure SRH940

When a pair of cans is destined to spend its life indoors, size isn't much of an issue. And these Shures are unashamedly large, padded and Cyberman-esque - we can't see many folks taking them on the Tube.

Open; transparent sound; well integrated across frequency range; comfy to wear

Revealing sound might not be to everyone's tastes

don't buy these

The Shure SRH940 have a clean design to them and they are very comfortable to use. An engineer once told me about these headphones and we had a headphone discussion. The sound of them is not bad, but I do have some issues with the mids and the lows.

Great monitors

Very comfy full sized headphones. It provides decent isolation and great details and is very neutral. Frequency range is very wide giving nice treble as well as bass details. Slightly less upper bass compared with srh440 and srh840 but the extra detail made me want to listen to my music all over...

Excellent reference headphones

Whether you're a professional sound engineer, at home producer, or simply someone who likes to listen to their music with truly good quality equipment, I could not recommend these more. Beautiful extended but not at all sibilant, astounding mids, and the bass is tight and still very present.
