Sennheiser RS170 report from a non expert

These wireless headphones are really superb. I read many reviews before buying them and all of the positive comments turned out to be correct. I am not a hi fi / sound expert but I do know that any kind of music sounds great on these phones. The sound is crystal clear with no interference at all.

Sennheiser RS 170 review: Sennheiser RS 170

The RS 170 continues Sennheiser's unchanging dedication to sonic clarity and they're well worth the price for anyone looking to grab wireless sound from a TV, AV receiver, cable box, or game console. The $279.95 Sennheiser RS 170 is a set of wireless headphones with a base unit that doubles as a transmitter and a battery charger. One of the nicest things a reviewer can say about wireless headphones is that they don't sound like wireless headphones, and the RS 170 certainly succeeds on that score. Connectivity is limited to just one analog input, which might be a deal breaker for some potential buyers, but the idea is that you hook up the transmitter to your TV or AV receiver, and then run your sources, like your cable box, Blu-ray player, or games, etc., through the TV or receiver. If that's what you're looking to do, the RS 170 is definitely worthy of your consideration.
Pros:
  • The Sennheiser RS 170 is a full-size set of headphones with Kleer wireless technology that delivers CD-quality sound.
Cons:
  • The awkward placement of the controls on the right earcup may require a longer learning curve for some users
  • and the transmitter/charger base lacks digital inputs.

I'm using these to listen to our TV; they are connected to the headphone out. I bought them to replace my failed Sony MDR-RF4000K, but I'm not too sure if it was worth it. Compared to Sony, I can't really say there is *any* improvement, maybe only when playing GT5 - Sony had a very weird problem...
Pros:
  • Sound fairly decent
Cons:
  • Cut out when input volume is low
  • cups are too shallow for my ears, manual switch on

Good and Bad

Great sound quality but the buttons on the headset are very difficult (virtually impossible) to use. In addition, the buttons on the control button can't be pressed with one hand - must use one hand to hold the base while the other presses the button.
Cons:
  • Terrible ergonomics

3rd Party Vendor Sarjo might not replace your defective product (or even answer your requests)

I cannot accurately rate the product, since it was defective from the start. I have purchased items from Amazon for years now. They are usually quick to resolve any issues. Unluckily for me, I bought these headphones from one of their third party vendors.
