Bought these headphones after reviewing a couple other models. First impressions out the box was good but after about 12 hrs of burn in i really heard the bass get more definition and overall sound was better. Tried it on multiple sources including ipad, ipod, sansa clip zip, and my onkyo receiver.

THE Sennheiser HD598 has very striking aesthetics. The cream and brown colour scheme is a welcome change from the usual grey and black design. It also has a glossy wood veneer that gives it a premium look and feel.

We typically scoff and prepare for the worst whenever we see the word "audiophile" in the marketing for any headphone that we see cross our desks, because we've been exposed to some of the crazy things that people will buy simply because it's branded as such.

Based on the merits of sound quality alone, we would rate the HD 598 a 9.5. These cans sound remarkable, perhaps the best we've heard under $500.

In the past we've raised an eyebrow at the brave colour choices for headphones, (such as the Phiaton MS300 s' gleaming red finish) but these Sennheisers take things to a whole other level.

My Son uses these for DJ work, they are very comfortable & provide excellent reproduction across the freq. range. For the dollars these are well worth it.
