Micro dynamic, cardioid optimized for low frequencies (Bass Drum, Bass ...). OVERALL OPINION I use for 3 months, I tried the
This is one of the best dedicated kick microphones i think i've ever used! It has the perfect presence peak to capture all the attack of the kick and doesn't have that overblown low end that many other kick mics suffer from. I'd recommend this for studio or live work!
The Sennheiser e902 is a professional grade kick drum mic that provides great attack and well rounded bass due to its cardiod pick-up pattern. A supercardiod can sound more harsh in a similar application. But, it is a matter of personal taste and the tonal qualities of your kick drum.
I did a lot or bass drum mic research before purchasing this. So far, I am impressed and happy with my choice. I play many live shows per month from small bars to large outside shows. The E902 has worked flawlessly on my Mapex maple kit. It produces a nice low tone with little EQ.
a quick disclaimer to everyone who wants the "click" sound out of the kick drum: this mic doesn't click. for those looking for a true reproduction of how your drum naturally sounds, this is a great mic. I use a rather deep and tall kick.
