Game Review: Scribblenauts Showdown

This generation of consoles has seen a resurgence of party games and while the vast majority of the titles at hand have come straight from lesser known indie studios, with limited experience and assets, others came straight from big developers, and even bigger publishers.

Sandbox Mode is Great; Wide Variety of Unlock-able Items

Motion Controls Are a Chore; Closer to an Action Game Than a Puzzler; Largely Repetitive

Ever since the series first debuted on DS back in 2009, Scribblenauts has offered something few games ever could: an experience limited only by the boundaries of your own imagination.

Liked Sandbox mode

I bought this for my kids, ages 11 - 22. They enjoyed battling each other, but players can go against the CPU as well, making it perfect for any number of players, up to 4. Battles included word and speed (players choice). A good, clean, kid-friendly game that is fun for teens as well.

Scribblenauts Showdown review - A party puzzler which doesn't quite deliver on its potential

It has the potential to be a great game, but Scribblenauts Showdown just doesn't have enough depth or freedom to live up to its name

Scribblenauts Showdown (Switch)

games might not have been the most refined games out there, but they were such a joy to play. Whether it was coming up with a MacGyver-esque contraption to get you through the Action levels, seeing how obscure a word you could think of in order to solve a puzzle or just messing around and seeing all...

Scribblenauts: Showdown review (SWITCH)

I never knew a gadfly could be so funny. There my friend was, sailing through the air on the back of a fine specimen of gadfly, trying to coax the most speed out of the insect he possibly could, but his efforts were all for naught. His wife was riding a gazelle, you see.

Scribblenauts Showdown (Nintendo Switch) Review

It's always good to try something new but, conversely, it doesn't always work. Here, it really doesn't work. Scribblenauts' charm was always in challenging the players to use their imagination and their diction to come up with fun and original solutions over the obvious or the mundane.
