The Samsung Odyssey G9 almost has it all - image quality is superb, it's packed with features and it has a stunning form factor. The aspect ratio and price mean it won't be for everyone, but it's a deeply impressive bit of tech.
Fantastic widescreen design; Superb 240Hz AMD FreeSync; Great image quality in SDR and HDR modes ;
Super-wide design won't suit everyone; Needs some more ports ; Underwhelming lighting;
Samsung’s Odyssey G9 is the company’s top-of-the-line gaming monitor, and a massive one at that. This 49-inch, 1440p curved screen can wrap around your sight lines and then some, with a bright, colorful picture that will satisfy most gamers. It’s pricey at $1,429.99, but its size and gaming-specific performance help justify that price for serious players of flight sims and racers who prefer one gigantic, enveloping widescreen panel to a bank of several with seams between.The Design: As Wide as All Indoors The Odyssey G9's screen is surrounded by a very thin black band flush with the panel, with only a small bezel on the bottom edge, adorned with the Samsung logo in the center. A four-direction control stick and power switch sits on the underside of the monitor, around the right third of the screen. The back of the monitor is white, a fairly uncommon design choice we’ve also seen in Alienware’s gaming monitors. (The panel would complement one of the white-toned, a.k.a. "Lunar Lig...
Flight-sim and racing fans will go ga-ga over Samsung's Odyssey G9, a gaming monitor with a curved 49-inch screen that gets incredibly bright while delivering smooth motion and vivid color.
Huge, luxurious wide-screen panel; Very bright; Strong color performance
Expensive; Input lag could be lower
Really is a brilliant monitor, however from day 1 I have had 2 issues which have resulted in a Technician from a Samsung agent coming out to my house to witness, and has just been approved for an RMA - but pending official word. 1st is when in Dynamic Contrast, and the display goes to sleep, it does not wake up. 2nd is just left of centre, I get a flashing bar about 30mm wide, up the whole screen. It does move a little bit, and it typically flashes white. Its incredibly distracting. Found other people around the world with the same issue. Happens at most about once every 10 seconds, or at least about once a minute. Completely random, and a...view more
I 've had reservations of buying this monitor due to the defects reported overseas but decided to buy it as there's no other monitor out there with these specs. I've been using the monitor for about a month now and is free of any defects/problems (knock on wood). The display resolution, immersion, and productivity gains from having a 32:9 is simply the way forward. This is the monitor to have!
Worth every penny, I have experienced no past issues that show up in reviews. Screen performs amazingly! Been putting it off for a long time but glad I invested in something this great!
This monitor is brilliant! I haven't experienced any of the issues that some others have reported. Some internet reviews talk about the curved nature not being for everyone and I wondered if I fell into that category myself when I first turned this thing on. But after about an hour or so of getting used to it, it was fine. And now having used it for about a month, I think it is fantastic. Some reviews also talk about this just being a gaming monitor. While games do look good, I bought this monitor for productivity and have not been disappointed (I was contemplating getting 2 x 27" monitors). Samsung's ‘Easy Setting Box’ app makes it easy to...view more
