Review: Samsung Galaxy S6

Click-click. Tap. The very best thing about the Samsung Galaxy S6 isn't the new design or the gorgeous high-res screen. (Those are nice, though.) It's the fact that no matter what you're doing, no matter where you are on the phone, all you have to do is click twice on the Home button and you're...

Gorgeous, sleek design; The screen is so high-res it's ridiculous; The best camera this side of the iPhone 6, and you can launch it in an instant; Fast, powerful hardware everywhere you look

Still too much TouchWiz; The phone can feel a little slick in your hands; A lot of bloatware---but at least you can remove it

Galaxy S6 review: Samsung's glorious return to greatness

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm calling it now: the Galaxy S6 is the top contender for Phone of the Year. Why?

Extremely battery efficient; Posh metal and glass chassis; Stellar camera performance; especially in low-light

There's still a bit of bloatware to contend with

Yes. The Galaxy S6 is fantastic. With great performance, premium design (finally!), and a camera that just screams, it's one of the best Android phones out there. It's a solid buy for anyone looking for a premium, solid, not-ginormous Android device.

Galaxy S6 deep-dive review: Samsung's shining star

For years, I've called upon Samsung to create a premium-caliber flagship phone that demonstrates focus, taste and restraint . With the Galaxy S6, the company has at long last delivered.

Sleek and attractive design; premium materials; outstanding display; exceptional camera; easy-to-use fingerprint sensor; decent speaker; solid performance; useful software features like ability to view multiple apps on-screen simultaneously and Easy Mode for novices; includes both wireless charging...

Subpar battery life; glass construction can be slippery and fragile; lacks removable battery and SD card slot present on previous models; user interface less polished and attractive than Google's core Android Lollipop OS; awkward hybrid button configuration

On paper, the Samsung Galaxy S6 might not appear as a great update to the Galaxy S5. It loses the water-proofing, doesn't have an expandable MicroSD card and has a smaller battery which is not removable. But all that becomes irrelevant as soon as you pick up the phone and start playing with it.

+ Brilliant Camera Experience; + Fastest Phone We've Tested; + Supports Wireless Charging

- OIS Not as Effective; - Lack of MicroSD Slot; - Unpredictable Battery

Samsung Galaxy S6 Review

Your move, Apple. Samsung's Galaxy S6 is a gorgeous reinvention of the long-running flagship phone, sporting a slick metal-and-glass design and a rich feature set that puts it toe-to-toe with -- and sometimes above -- the iPhone 6 .

It happen every year and yet this time it feels different. Samsung's much hyped and highly praised smartphone has made its way to South Africa and we've finally got our hands on one for more than a few minutes to see what its like.

Samsung Galaxy S6 review: It's what's on the outside that counts

Take a critical look at any Samsung flagship from the last six years, and you could apply the same complaint to all of them: "this 'premium' phone doesn't feel premium." While Samsung has aggressively pushed the envelope on screen sizes, SoCs, and extra hardware features, the exterior of their...

A spectacular camera; Better than the iPhone 6 Plus-yep, we said it, Big improvement in materials; Glass and aluminum make this Galaxy actually feel like it's worth the price tag, Qualcomm dropped the ball with the Snapdragon 810, and Samsung was one of the few companies with a viable alternative...

TouchWiz is still bad; The Flipboard home screen is a laggy hack; Apps hide the status bar for no reason; Things look different for no reason; Your OS looks like TouchWiz, but you'll be using an entire ecosystem of Material Design apps, The G6 supports always-on voice commands that can wake up the...

Samsung's image has lost a lot of its former sheen; even more so when it comes to the top-end Galaxy S range. Under more pressure than ever before, the company is betting on a major reinvention. Gone is the cheap plastic, in favour of slick aluminium.

For years, we've harped on Samsung to stop building its smartphones with creaky plastic and bloated software. The Galaxy series is Android's flagship brand, but Samsung has rarely offered the best Android experience. Now, in the Galaxy S6, change has finally come.

There is no faster; more capable and feature-rich smartphone on the market today

It's great to see Samsung integrate metal-and-glass into its design; but the result lacks distinctiveness next to the similarly styled iPhone 6
