Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra review: The brightest star in the Android galaxy

Has Samsung managed to find the right balance between the Galaxy S series and Galaxy Note series with the Galaxy S22 Ultra? The Galaxy S22 Ultra is undoubtedly an S series smartphone, but with the Galaxy Note's heart. Which is a good thing by the way.

Samsung Galaxy S22 ULTRA 5G (128GB, Black) - Excellent review

I have to confess: While writing this review, I kept typing “the Note 22 Ultra” and had to correct my mistake at least a dozen times. Those of you who are Note fans will find this a pleasant reunion.

Samsung Galaxy S22 ULTRA 5G (128GB, Black) - Excellent review

Practically epitomising premium, the S22 Ultra stands out with features in so many ways. Battery, unfortunately, isn't among them, and neither is the price, but if you can live near a charger and don't mind the spend, you get nearly everything else.
Pros:
  • Great screen, Solid performance, Capable and versatile camera, Supports 5G, While still thin, the S-Pen feels good to use, Water resistant, Wireless charging
Cons:
  • Camera can be slow to fire, Zoom camera's AI only really handles some subjects well, not all, Battery isn't always stellar, Expensive

Samsung Galaxy S22 ULTRA 5G (128GB, Black) - Excellent review

My first impression about Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was made long before I bought it. I thought that the phone was too expensive at the starting price of $1200. I couldn’t bring myself to buy one as long as it stayed at that price. However, the gods of mobile smiled on me.

Samsung Galaxy S22 ULTRA 5G (128GB, Black) - Excellent review

The smartphone landscape has not changed much over the past few years. There are a handful of new smartphone makers and many solid midrange and budget options we never had before. But overall, the flagship smartphone market is still dominated by two major players, Samsung and Apple.

Galaxy S22 Ultra reviewed in 2023: Is it worth buying close to the S23 launch?

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is an important smartphone because it announced a big change in Samsung's product strategy. But that also makes it a transitional, middle-of-the-road smartphone that stands on solid ground but innovates very little. One year later, is it still worth buying?
Pros:
  • Excellent 120Hz QHD+ display, Very elegant sleek and square design, More consistent S Pen integration, Still the champion when it comes to versatile photos, Unrivalled Android update policy
Cons:
  • Disappointing Exynos 2200 performance, Poor battery life, Fast recharge is not fast enough and the $60 charger is not included, Expensive price, Basic 8 GB RAM/128 GB storage configuration is too limited

Here’s what’s really going on with those ‘fake’ Galaxy S23 Ultra moon photos

Editor’s note: The Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Ultra are now official, so you may want to hold off … Is the Galaxy S22 Ultra for productivity-focused people who miss the Galaxy Note, or for people who loved the Galaxy S21 Ultra and its incredible camera? Or is it for both, or an entirely new set of people? The S22 Ultra combines much of what we love about the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the Galaxy S21 Ultra, so getting confused about it is understandable, but don’t be. Think of this heavyweight technology powerhouse as practically all the phone you’ll need for the next few years regardless of what you want to do with it, and you’ll have it figured out. There’s a lot to talk about here, so let’s dig in. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is very serious, especially in the Phantom Black color you see in our photos. It’s not quirky or a bit playful like the Galaxy S21 Ultra or even its other S22 family members, the Galaxy S22 or S22+ phones, which share no design similarities with it apart from bein...
Pros:
  • S Pen is convenient and highly accurate
  • Versatile camera takes great photos
  • The latest processor for power
  • Long software support
  • Beautiful high refresh rate screen
Cons:
  • Not very fast battery charging
  • Large and heavy
