Samsung Galaxy S20 5G review

A few software foibles aside, the Galaxy S20 feels like the Goldilocks of flagship phones right now. Not too big. All the hardware you could want, but not too feature-packed. Just right. It delivers excellent battery life, a phenomenal display, blistering performance and superb image quality from a diverse set of cameras. It may not take the best photos, with the Pixel 4 and iPhone 11 claiming victory in certain scenarios, but it does a great job almost all of the time. Until someone else comes along and does it better, this is the Android handset to beat.
Pros:
  • High refresh rate meets fantastic image quality
  • Best hardware and build quality of any Android phone
  • All-day battery life… usually
Cons:
  • 5G not worth it for many
  • Camera image processing a bit strong
  • RIP headphone socket

Samsung Galaxy S20 5G Australian Stock (12GB RAM, 128GB, Blue) - As New review

It has almost become sort of a tradition for Galaxy S smartphones to be excellent high-end devices that are unable to keep up with their competitors in all aspects of smartphone life.
Pros:
  • slim and lightweight case, bleeding edge up-to-date software, wide LTE band support, support for 8K video, great and very bright 120 Hz display, 60 Hz gaming, decent battery life, 5G optional
Cons:
  • no aptX HD, location services not particularly accurate at times, many video features only up to FHD/30fps, Exynos SoC throttles noticeably, high temperatures under load, no real telephoto lens

The Galaxy S20 is so close to being the phone I’d tell everyone to buy for 2020. You won’t find a better display. You might not find a better in-hand feel. Battery life is solid. Performance is excellent. The software experience is smooth and feature-packed. There is so much good going on here.
Pros:
  • Display, Hardware and Specs, Performance, Battery life, Design, Software, Camera, 5G, Price

Samsung Galaxy S20 5G Australian Stock (12GB RAM, 128GB, Blue) - As New review

The S20 series is Samsung’s first smartphones with multiple lenses and “Space Zoom” capability in a bid to match Huawei and OPPO’s camera system. The S20 and S20+ achieves respectable zoom quality for general use, but the S20 Ultra delivers better image quality.

Samsung Galaxy S20 5G Australian Stock (12GB RAM, 128GB, Blue) - As New review

Having used the Galaxy S20 as my daily driver for a little over a week now, and having previously tested the Galaxy S20 Ultra, I can safely say that the smallest, cheapest smartphone in the line up is absolutely the one to buy.
Pros:
  • Compact feel, Subtle display curves, 120 Hz smoothness, Good multi-tasker, Fast charging
Cons:
  • Space Zoom is a gimmick, No 120 Hz at QHD+, Still expensive
