Samsung Galaxy Note 8 64GB
The new 6.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Note8 resembles the S8 Plus phone and the processor and many other specs are the same. Note 8 does contain some new features like the 12 MP dual camera and the more sophisticated pen.
The dual rear cameras contain a wide-angle lens and a tele lens. This combination yields ten times better digital zoom and twice the optical zoom. Both cameras support optical image stabilisation, which results in crisper photos. The performance under low-light conditions is especially noticeable. The dual cameras enable the Live focus feature, whereby it's possible to zoom in on an objected located close while the background remains blurry. This feature makes Note 8's cameras behave like a system digital camera.
One of the main selling points of the phone is its productivity-enhancing capabilities. The pen plays an imperative role and extends the functionality of Note 8 beyond notes taking and drawing. It's possible to take notes in screen-lock mode thanks to the Always on display also found on Galaxy S8. A click on the pin icon positioned in the lower right corner of the screen gives instant access to a maximum of 100 notes. Hence, it's easy to check items on the shopping list while shopping in-store.
The Note 8 phone sports 6 GB of RAM memory, 64 GB of storage and comes with dual sim slots. It's powered by Samsung's own Exynos 8895 processor. The battery has a capacity of 3,300 mAH and the phone is waterproof with an IP68 rating.
A newer model Samsung Galaxy Note 9 128GB was released in May 2018.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 review
Samsung unveiled its new smartphone/tablet hybrid the Galaxy Note 2 at IFA this year. Retailing for a hefty £530 SIM-free, the Note 2 targets the same top-end market, currently dominated by Apple's ever-popular iPhone 5 and Samsung's own Galaxy S3.- Large screen
- reasonable camera and battery life
- super-fast processor
- Screen can very occasionally go blurry
- S Pen can struggle with capital letters and spaces
Samsung Galaxy Note 2 review
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a huge improvement on the Samsung Galaxy Note and the best large format smartphone we've seen. With all the S Pen functions, Android Jelly Bean, nippy processor and of course, that largebattery, it's the first phablet we've seen that works as such.
Samsung Galaxy Note II
As with the first generation Samsung Galaxy Note, if you don't mind a very large phone and your use tends more toward web, email and video rather than calling, the Samsung Galaxy Note II is a unique cross-over phone that works both as a small tablet and a phone.- Huge screen, but slim phone
- Digital pen, excellent custom software
- Removable battery and microSD card slot
- Big phone! Maddeningly slippery
- Screen tech doesn't wow us
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (64GB, Black) - Excellent review
In 2016 we were singing the praises of the fantastic, larger-than-life Galaxy Note 7 . We awarded it top honours and, were it not for the small matter of a worldwide recall – following the emergence of a potentially dangerous battery flaw – we’d probably still be recommending it now.
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 review: a greatest hits package from the godfather of phablets
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 feels like a greatest hits for the Note series. It has every feature that made previous Notes worth buying and slams them into the new Samsung smartphone design ushered in by the Galaxy S8, but as a consequence doesn't feel particularly new or innovative compared to...- great battery
- impressive screen
- water resistant
- great camera
- great stylus
- microSD card slot
- wireless charging
- only Android 7.0
- no USB-PD
- fingerprint scanner placement awkward
- expensive
- very big for pockets
Samsung Galaxy Note8 Smartphone
This phone looks spectacular. The shape is the oblong with curved edges we expect from a mobile phone, with a sleek, slick back which is also composed...- Lovely design and build quality
- Impressive dual camera
- Excellent display
- Good performance
- Plenty of useful features
- Location of fingerprint sensor
- Very expensive
Samsung Galaxy Note 8
The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is an enhanced version of the S8+. Even thicker and heavier, it's a massive phone and won't be suitable for everyone. But it offers the same incredible curved AMOLED display and top-end specs as the S8+, plus an S Pen, dual lens camera, iris scanner and 6GB of RAM, making...
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 review: Bigger, better, less flammable
Samsung Galaxy Note 8: The Galaxy Note 8 rises from the ashes of its predecessor; but can Samsung get back in your pocket?- Incredible bezel-less display
- Superb dual cameras
- Refined stylus
- Painfully expensive
- Weaker battery life than S8 Plus
Samsung Galaxy Note 8 review: Sunshine after a dark day
Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is slightly thicker than its brother the Galaxy S8 plus, mostly because it has to accommodate the S-pen. 3,300 mAh of battery juice provides just 22 hours of work time (nominal use with Wi-Fi on).
After two years South Africans finally have a new Samsung Note smartphone to buy. As you may recall the Note 7 never made it to South Africa due to a battery fault that caused many handsets to spontaneously catch fire.
