Samsung Galaxy Buds Live : Inventive yet flawed (and cheaper than ever)

While the clever new design proves a hit, the Galaxy Buds Live are severely let down by ineffective ANC

Stylish, unobtrusive design; Comfortable fit; Decent bass reproduction;

Ineffective noise-cancellation; Restrictive touch controls; Only IPX2 rated;

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live - Mystic Black SM-R180NZKAASA review

The Samsung Galaxy Buds Live offer great sound quality and battery life for the price, but those seeking true ANC earbuds should look elsewhere. Samsung has delivered yet another impressive set of wireless earbuds with the Galaxy Buds Live, which offer great overall sound quality, strong battery...

Great sound quality, Very comfortable design, Solid battery life, Lots of useful features

Noise cancelling is very subtle, Inconsistent touch controls, Mixed microphone quality

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live review

The Samsung Galaxy Buds Live are good – but not great – true wireless earbuds. They have a number of neat features and offer a combined 28-hour battery life, but their sound isn’t amazing, and the noise cancellation has a lot of room for improvement. They’re certainly unique, but those interested in high-end sound quality and excellent ANC over a conversation-starting design should look elsewhere.

Surprisingly good fit; Extra helping of bass; Combined 20-hour battery life; ;

Middling sound quality; Poor noise cancellation; Low IP rating

Noise cancelling is substandard

Not bad comfortable but not good for booking out background noise

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live - Mystic Black SM-R180NZKAASA review

Samsung’s latest true wireless earbuds have a unique “open type” design, but you have to sacrifice sound quality and the effectiveness of ANC. There are some attractive features here, but the company’s Galaxy Buds+ are the better option.

Lots of features but poor physical design

Connectivity with Samsung devices, touch controls and wireless charging capabilities are great. However I find the buds don't fit well in your ear and become painful to wear for extended durations. If worn the way the instructions say, the sound quality is not great. The active noise cancelling makes no noticeable difference. I would skip these and buy a pair of buds of the type designed to fit in your ear.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Live - Mystic Black SM-R180NZKAASA review

Samsung braved uncharted territory with the Galaxy Buds Live, at a time when everyone is following Apple's lead....

Bluetooth 5.0; AAC and Samsung scalable codec Wireless and fast charging (USB-C) Unique design, stable fit App available on iOS and Android Good microphone quality

Just okay noise cancelling Only IPX2 water-resistance Mediocre sound quality
