It's an awesome ssd with such an high speed of data transfer
Samsung may not be the first to release a QLC SSD, but the 860 QVO is the first mainstream SATA drive to try and deliver on the promise of high-capacity solid state drives at a price to rival large scale spinning platter storage.
I bought two one for me and one for my brother. Both to speed up our aging laptops, And did it ever you bet. Its like a new Computer. Boots up so fast and programs load in a blink of an eye. Even internet seems faster., I cloned my old hard drive to the ssd with my usb sata cable.
I replaced a 4TB EVO with this QVO hoping to save money as an OS drive running via thunderbolt on a 2017 MacBook Pro, while the EVO has been rock solid, this 4TB QVO has frozen multiple times and that is in keeping with some early reviews.
Every year, SSD technology gets better and better which is where Samsung's new and affordably priced 860 QVO (Quality and Value Optimized) comes into play which retails from $179AUD online for the 1TB model (reviewed) with a 2TB and 4TB also available.
We are gradually seeing more and more SSDs, both SATA and NVMe based, being launched into the market using the latest 4-bit or QLC NAND flash technology. The latest drive to hit the market is the 4TB flagship drive of Samsung's SSD 860 QVO range – the company's first drive family to use 4-bit NAND.
Overall performance; Good endurance; Strong built in encryption
Only a 3-year warranty
Worked great as an upgrade for my laptop drive. I would recommend downloading the samsung data transfer software, it made the whole process so much simpler.
Go away Fanboy, waste your money on another bad deal. It used to be that for 2TB size, these drives were okay for the price. Not anymore. For 1TB size they never made sense. I've bought several 1TB Samsung 860 EVOs in the 120 range and WD Blues also using TLC regularly go for 110 or less.
QVO fanboy is sad because he got a bad deal; The only Pros are: Samsung reputation with SSDs and 860 QVO has better lifespan than most QLC memory drives - way better than Intel QLC drives like the 660p NVMe
Fanboys write 5 egg reviews for SSDs that are a bad deal; QLC is garbage-dump memory; It's poor performance and lower endurance put it way behind SSDs using TLC memory; Thanks to NE promos, you can find TLC sata drives with better performance, better lifespan & longer warranty for the same price.
This solid state drive is incredibly fast. I replaced a failing standard disk drive with this internal drive and my computer is much faster from startup to opening and transferring files. The 1TB storage was ample for both my operating system and data storage, with space to spare.
Design; Features; Performance; value
No problems exchanging a previously purchased external USB drive for the Samsung, ghost drive image of existing laptop drive to this one and for massive speed increase in both booting up and general use.
