Despite not changing much from its popular predecessor, Resident Evil 5 is still an incredibly entertaining, very immersive and intense action title. A solid debut for the franchise on the current generation.

The evil has risen one more time, thanks to viral mutagens zombifying villagers in a fictitious African nation. When a bioterrorist security team is sent in to investigate, Resident Evil 1 hero Chris Redfield makes a return to action.

'Resident Evil 5' has finally hit shelves. With all the fanfare surrounding the latest 'Resident' storyline installment, does this game live up to the hype or fall short? Is the single-player campaign fun, or is this a co-op focused experience?

It's not at all disappointing that the suppositions of racism dogging Resident Evil 5 proved groundless. And yet if the story had actually been insensitive (or if it had been intentional exploitation to trump 50 Cent's game), there would be a lot more to think about.

Resident Evil 5 is a great action romp. The basic gameplay fundamentals remain from RE4, but it still has enough positives to classify as a worthy title. The new inventory system is great and the co-op implementation is good for the most part.

"The best survival horror ever made", "innovative", "an amazing achievement", are smatterings of some of the countless superlatives churned out to describe Resident Evil 4's successful release in 2005.
